How long can the propane generator run on fuel in a tc with 2 5 gal propane tanks? My dad just bought a lance 971 and we were wondering.

2.5 gallons of LP is 10 lbs. That is a pretty small tank.

Also, most (all?) dual fuel generators make less power on LP.

Thanks for the replies. This is one of the propane ones that came in the lance 971. We were just kinda curious. I haven't used a propane generator before so i have no clue how long they run. And of course i know the fuel usage load dependent. Just kinda a average run time. I mean for the most part one probably don't run the generator much unless the ac is running.

You should hope its a Onan 2500 and not a Generac.
They can both be expensive to repair.

I T'd this hose into the pressure regulator and one of the LP tanks. Its my backup in case I run out.

Those horizontal bottles are expensive and this way I can take an extra bottle from my BBQ.

Propane usage on average is about 130% of gasoline usage of the same generator, but some poor conversion can have the % even higher.
How it can be different - I can compare gasoline models.
The 4500W Generac would use 1 gallon of gas per hr with 1/3 load.
My Honda 3000 will run 6 hr on the same amount of gas, while running AC, or probably couple of days for battery charging and coffee maker.

First check what kind of generator it is and go to manufacturer site for technical data. Members experience will start another kind of diesel v/s gaser debate.
When inverter generators really run long time at low load, the high speed generator will suck it load or not.
Than higher load will increase consumption.

Fuel consumption is very dependant on the load on your generator.

My generator sips fuel until I turn on the air conditioner then it guzzles fuel.

My best guesstimate is that I use about 4 times the fuel when the a/c is running than when it isn't.

According to Onan a 2500 Onan at half load should use about .3gl per hour.

So 10 gallons should last 30 hours. I hope that's right. ๐Ÿ™‚
