HI,
I am new to the Trailer towing world, I am going to be purchasing a pop up camper very soon, I just have a couple of questions. I already have a towing package in my truck ( 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500) I am not too sure which hitch to buy? do I need a weight distribution? and also do I need sway bars? Any feed back would be great

Thanks
J

Learn to make your turns a little wide. Many years ago when I got my first pop-up I took a left turn too sharp and jumped a median with the trailer. I was glad it was only a curb and not another vehicle. Get some convex mirror add-ons if don't have factory ones. Once you get used to using them you can see where the trailer is when making turns, and more importantly you can see where other vehicles are in relation to the trailer.

You can probably just screw a ball in the step bumper and go!

Buy your forever hitch after you decide on a trailer.

If you need something now, go to Walmart and get a Curt or Reese hitch with both the 2" and 2 5/16" balls on it. Then you're covered for the majority of bumper pull configuration.

In the 60s we pulled a pop-up with a ford falcon. In the 80s we used a crown vic. How big is your camper, what is the tongue weight?

Double check but likely a 2-inch ball and your truck likely has a 2-inch receiver.

The safety nannies can sell you on wdh, sway, etc.

Measure the height of the receiver on your truck and the height of the hitch on the pop up. You'll want a ball mount that makes up some of that difference, so the front of the camper can sit level while hooked up, instead of pointing at the moon.

By the way, welcome to the forums!
