HI Folks: Could someone inform me whether the hours recorded on the gauge for a propane generator in a Lance is actual hours or based on load hours. The 2500 Watt generator has 71 hours showing on it and I have no idea if that is considered high or low for usage (it is ten years old)? In general, if they are well maintained, how many hours can they have without major repairs. cheers christl
Hi Folks: Guess I do not have to worry about that one if I purchase the unit. Thanks for the input everyone - don't know where else I would go for all thesee kind of questions. Cheers
I average 60-70 hours a year on my Onan. After three years, I have done three oil changes and blew out the air filter every year. They burn very clean on LPG and don't varnish up the carburetor and jets from sitting like the gasoline models. My spark plug still looks good too. Prior to this 2500, I had a 5500 gasoline model in my toy hauler - I never had problems with it either, but I made sure to fire it up twice a month so fuel would not sit.
Its the actual running hours. 71 total hrs is nothing. Change the oil and check the air filter once a year and you should get years of service out of it. If its an Onan 2500 there is no oil filter.
I sold my class A at 7 years old with about 40 hours on the genset. Some people just don't use them much. A genset that is maintained will run 1000's of hours - I'm not sure you can wear them out with reasonable use and maintenance. Propane one should last longer than gas as propane is easier on the lubrication etc.
