how can I find info on the capacity of each grey tank?

Our new trailer has two grey tanks...one for the shower/the other for the kitchen sink...has two grey outlets--the black outlet is linked into one of the grey outlets, and the other grey outlet is stand-alone...

here's the issue...I see the TOTAL grey capacity in the specs, but nothing about how this total is divided between the two tanks...ex. does it hold 10 on the 'galley' tank and 42 on the shower tank? vice versa? an even split between the two?

curious because I don't want a repeat of the 'water is backing up into the bathtub' thing

The manufacture of my trailer had the wrong size listed (it is smaller than they said). If you really want to know for sure, measure the tank size and calculate or pour water in it. Advantage of adding water is you can get a relative calibration of your monitor (add water and watch the monitor transition). Of course, this calibration will be subjective to how clean your sensors are, but it's better than nothing. Did the same for my fresh water tank too. Now I have a fairly accurate monitor for the fresh tank and a much better "guess" for the grey and black.
BTW, you can make a black water tank dipstick (old broom stick with calibration marks on it) that will always be accurate (as long as there is no pile)

got the answer....called the manufacturer (based on a reply in this thread)....now, why didn't I think of that?

Anyway, each gray is 26 gallons...makes sense...as one post-er suggested, generally multiple tanks will be of even size...the spec sheet on our current trailer shows:
Black Water 26
Gray / Galley Water 52

manufacturer rep told me they're all the same size...a 26-gallon black, and two 26-gallon greys...

our last trailer had a single grey tank with a 42-gallon capacity/black tank held 32 gallons...

I find it amusing that some of you think the maker actually knows what size tanks are on the product they make or would lug water in a TT to pour into the tanks with a bucket that may or may not actually be 5 gallons. If you can see the tanks some simple math will give you all you need to know within a gallon or two.

I find it amusing that you're concerned about the accuracy of a five gallon bucket, but are okay with an answer that's "within a gallon or two".

Trailernovice the specs say black 26 gal grey/galley 52 gal. I would think it is pretty safe to say all three tanks are 26 gal as most TT manufacturers drop the same size tank in all locations.

Well I was told at the dealer and in all the brochures that I had read on our trailer that the grey water was 23 gallons.

I was under the trailer doing some wire clean up and just checking things.

Then I noticed molded into the bottom of the plastic tank 32 Gallon!

Were you maybe laying on your back when you were under the trailer and looking at it up side down...23=32

HMMMMM good info I had not thought about that..

Now where the heck is my 5 gallon bucket???:B

Depending on how the tank is mounted and how it is plumbed it may not hold the full 32 gallons. Then again maybe the person who wrote the specs was dyslexic. 32 - 23 my wife does it all the time.

Hmmm. That is an interesting comment. I've towed many hundreds of miles ( probably more like several thousand miles ) with varying amounts of water in my gray tank, and never had that happen.

You can get pretty close by turning your hose on full and timing how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket then with empty tanks time how long it takes to fill until the water starts to come up in the shower drain or the sink.

I vote for this method !! 🙂 It doesn't get much easier than this.;)
