I'm scared

I am now wondering whether or not I should pull the trigger and follow through on the KZ spree connect 260RKS purchase. I am hearing a lot of things on the Internet about problems with the KZ travel trailers. I cannot afford to make a mistake on a tt purchase. I am concerned as I have read that manufacturers don't honor the warranties and that the KZ is cheaply made.

What are the top brands of TT's

Thank you all!

I had an RV mechanic work on my TT last year in St. Augustine. He had been heavily involved in trouble-shooting and warranting in the RV industry. Got fed up in Indiana's climes, moved his family and started his own RV Repair business in Fla. (http://leesrvrepair.com/)

After his experiences, KZ was the ONLY brand he would consider buying.

I think you're right. A few have issues right from the start while other while others develop issues over the years. With road conditions being what they are, the more miles on the road creates more maintenance requirements other than the normal routine. Looking after them as they crop up is just a part of RVing. But it's all worth the enjoyment we get from our RVs.

Thank you all for your candor. Thankfully my husband is a master carpenter and the most handiest man I have ever met so we should be fine then. I do take care of my stuff to so it sounds like this is a plus. I will try my best not to flop my a$$ on the furniture. All of you had me cracking up!!

I want to find an honest sales person too.

I feel sorry for your husband. Every time he goes into the trailer he's going to feel sick 🙂

All kidding aside, I have been in construction most my life (62) and it just pains me to look at the inside of most trailers. But it is what it is.

Agree with all of the above. Even the $500,000 monster Class A's will have problems and then they're BIG problems....check with my cousin on that! Another cousin bought a KZ Sportsmen back in about '03 and had no issues. Remember that the majority of equipment is the same in most all RVs....frig, stove, furnace, A/C, lots of the frame and stuff you don't see every day. Assume from Day #1 that you'll need to replace the cheapie kitchen faucet with a better one....a trip to Lowe's or HD will fix that and yes, a regular home faucet fits. Never had a problem with the bathroom faucets in either trailer. There are a lot of very happy owners of most all manufacturers. The ones you hear or read about are a very small percentage. We've had 2 Rockwood trailers and not a problem with either...loved them. Some folks wouldn't buy a Rockwood/Shamrock if their life depended on it. Everybody turns out a lemon from time to time and there is no 100% assurance. Do all your little 15 minute jobs when you notice them...tightening screws, adjusting something, doing what the instructions tell you to do, read the manuals even if they don't make sense at the time. Big stuff? If you don't have the skills to fix it right and right NOW, get it to your dealer to be evaluated. You've found a great floorplan that you love, go get it and start planning. Enjoy! Don't let this make you crazy as we all have been known to do at this point. GO!

When we went shopping for our first camper in November of 2014, most dealer sales people tried to tell us how great this brand was or that brand. Where did we buy ours? From the dealer where the owner showed us the campers and before he showed us any said...Every camper from every manufacturer is a piece of crap. If you ever saw how they were built, you'd never sleep in one. They are way over priced and made with the cheapest materials they can make them with. Anyone that tells you different is blowing smoke up you know where. So now that you know that, if you still are interested in buying a camper, let me show you some. You see these models over here? I'm not going to show you any of those because they are worse than most and the manufacturer doesn't honor the warranty. I have them marked way down just to get rid of them. Let me show you these over here instead. Talk about honest!

I cannot speak for the Spree model ,but as far as KZ goes... NOTHING BUT TOP NOTCH response from the factory...

IF they have the floor plan we are looking for , they are and will be at the top of our list when we look for new..

Go over to here - KZ Family Forum

ask some questions to KZ specific folks . . . .

Not a lot of activity on the KZ Forum. That is why I hang out here :B

We like our 2012 KZ Sportsmen 170. It is as cheaply built as they ALL are. Unless you buy a $500,000 Class A...it will be built with light weight, cheaper materials. That is why we can afford it.

Remember, it is not a house. If you are "hard" on your house...you will destroy a trailer very quickly. That bench seat at the table has a piece of plywood between you and the storage compartment. If you FLOP your @$$ down like it is a $4,000.00 sofa...you are going to end up in the storage compartment. They are not built to be abused, they are built to be enjoyed.

I would put KZ right up there with Jayco dollar for dollar. If KZ has a floorplan we like, we wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Ours has been worry free.

We owned a KZ before our current TT and we loved every minute of it. My wife shed a tear when the family who bought it drove off. Nothing's perfect this side of heaven. Go for it!

Which may be a perfect example why anecdotal references really mean little. We too owned a KZ Spree, for six years, and really like it a LOT, but that didn't alter the fact that several years into ownership the curb side wall of the trailer de-laminated quite noticeably in several areas. I could find no water intrusion or any reason for the de-lamination ... it just seemed the outer wall material let go from whatever it was supposed to be secured to. It was worrying but it happened about the time our boys began to camp with us less and because it was becoming all too clear that we'd soon be on our own we decided to get rid of that triple bunk bed trailer and start looking for a smaller couple's model. I guess it became someone else's problem as the dealer seemed to have no problem reselling it.
