Ok let me ask if you went and pickup ur new TT directly from the manufacture and you didn't know anything about any adjustments you should make and nobody told you and thay said all is good and send you on your way and this happens to you....who is at fault

Not necessarily. False hitch often "looks" true...coupler can appear to be almost all the way down on the ball, it's just not latched. A trailer can go quite a ways before it jolts off the ball, especially if you've got weight distribution and/or sway bars hooked up too.

I agree with Francesca Knowles, check the coupler adjustment. There is a nut up inside that adjusts how far the clamp inside the coupler moves when you latch it. Too tight and you can't move the latch all the way, too loose and it will not clamp tight enough when latched. I remember having to adjust the one on my old pop-up when I bought it. I would be surprised if it was that loose as to allow it to pop off the ball, but it is possible. And when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth ๐Ÿ™‚

as far as the wrong ball size it's pretty common on travel trailers to have a 2 5/16 ball size that's what the trailer called for and that's what I had on

Unless your coupler was so far out of adjustment that it simply was too big for the ball, you likely had what's known as a "false hitch". That's when someone snaps the coupler down thinking it's latching around the ball and it's not.

More common than you'd think, and more so among experienced RVers that sometimes tend to get complacent about such things. Best to check for true couple by using the jack to attempt to lift the tongue after coupling is complete.

But like a previous poster, not sure how this helps since it sounds like you've already had some sort of catastrophe...

well like I said I have experience doing this I know that it was on the ball properly Keystone and Lippert both have recalls I'm similar trailers for this happening it has something to do with not enough indentation on the front of the hitch

Sounds like 'operator error'

I had this happen with a small utility trailer that I had not "seated" properly on the ball. How does this help?

One thing that comes too mind is that you didn't have it all the way down on the ball or the ball was too small for the hitch and it poped up off. Probably the later.
