Looking for input as I consider a trailer upgrade. Tow vehicle is 2013 Suburban 2500 6.0/6 speed/3.73. Tow rating listed at 9,400 max. GVWR 8,600, payload is 2,049. Hitch is limited to 1,000 with weight distributing. Looking to upgrade our 2004 Jayco 27Bh and want fiberglass vs aluminum. Really like the Eagle 284 BHBE which is listed at UVW 6,390, dry hitch at 680, and GVW of 9,250.

In the 10 years with our current trailer, we have never towed with full water, usually a few gallons. We only go for a week at a time packing flip flops and paper plates. In other words, I will not be loading the trailer to its max GVW. I realize the options on the trailer might add 500 lbs to the published weight plus wht I put inside. I would guess we would be near 8,000 loaded trailer. Also lookng at a comparable Outdoor RV creekside 27.

Am I getting too close for comfort with this combo, do I need to consider lightweights if this is the floorplan I like? Appreciate the input.

If dry weight is 6390 you will likely be around 8000 ready to camp (it's not the flip flops its the pots and pans, etc). At 13% tongue weight that puts you at 1040 on the hitch which shouldn't be a big deal. The receiver is the limiting factor on those newer burbs. I know the previous generation GM receivers were crap, but I understand the newer ones to be better.

You will be right at the limit on the receiver but under on all other weights, so I don't think you'll have a problem towing it. We are at 8500-ish fully loaded, sometimes as high as 9000 with full water and firewood depending on the destination.

Sounds like you'll be fine as long as you are not loading the trailer itself over its GVW of 9,250.

Nice truck!

That is 1000-1500 pounds less than I am considering for my next TT. You have 300 pounds of TW to add which is on the high end of what I have seen. 200-250 seems more common for RVers. Go for it!

We have a similar floorplan now and enjoyed for 4 summers! 3rd kid has us longing for quad bunks. I looked at the Eagle 314 and liked it a lot, but too heavy. I think we like the Keystone Outback 301 the best! Anyway, that Eagle 284 looks great!

Thanks for the reply. The suburban must carry myself, wife, two young kids and dog , most gear is packed in trailer. We may be close to max hitch weight and not sure how performance of rig will be towing 8, 000lbs.

What do you carry in the Burb? Unless you plan on loading 8 big passengers or a bunch of heavy stuff in the Burb I think you'll be fine. I'd guess you'd be around 8k loaded too with a tongue maybe a little over 1k. That'll leave you nearly 1k of payload for passengers etc. Plenty of power in the 6.0 to pull it too.
