Just got a camper.. Need more truck. HELP

ok, so we got a 24ft toy hauler.. Towed it home with a 2015 F150 Eco boost. Truck pulled it fine.. I think its just to lite. Could feel the trailer surging the truck and Im not a fan. So with that said. I was originally looking at a used F250. Now the girlfriend is fixated on the excursions. Something we can get her kids and mine in and it be comfy. So can anyone tell me what to stay away from in an excursion? Im thinking that that tow rig will be a much better "feel" going down the road opposed to feeling like the back end of the truck is on skates. I would prefer to go with the diesel too.

Dropped the EX off at the shop today... Hopefully I will feel the difference in something other than the wallet.

Good. Funny, I just put the 2 together. You also posted on FTE! I didn't even think, I just thought I seen them both here, but then realized you posted at both forums. Good for you! Once you get the X sorted out it will be an excellent tower! It took me a while to get mine to tow as good as it does now. I can tow up to 12 hours before I get tired! When I first bought my X I was ready to trade it after a month. After joining FTE and doing some research here I got it dialed in perfect.

LOL, small world huh.. Yeah I think with a few tweaks here and there the EX will suit our needs well. We loaded up with 6 people and 2 dogs over the weekend and everyone had plenty of room... I think after the gears are in, it will be even more enjoyable to tow with.

Yeah Dodge, I got a price on the swap yesterday for 4.56's

If you still have the stock gearing (probably 3.73) with the larger tires, the V-10 will definitely struggle. you will want a minimum of 4.56 with larger tires. I went from 3.73 to 4.30`s with stock size tires, and I definitely could see me running 4.56`s with stock tires. towing anything over 8k lbs will require 4.30`s with stock size tires.
You definitely want 4.56`s! and then get a tune from 5 star!

Great! I like reading success stories. It makes a good looking combo as well. Are you running in O/D and feeling the lack of HP on the inclines? 2500=3000rpm is about where you should be "in my humble opinion" for towing a TT with a gas engine. If locking out O/D puts you in that range, I would go that route and keep the taller final gear ratio for better mileage running empty in O/D.

Headed out Friday.. The EX did the job. I did find out that the gearing is off and it wanted to fall on its face going up some incline, so that's the next order of business. But after addressing that I think it'll be good to go. The ride was good, no sway, no surge from bumps. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience.

Got the brake controller in, Everything so far is checking out. The brakes look good the front suspension looks good, With the exception of replacing the steering stabilizer and shocks. I think Ill be able to tow the camper this weekend with it.

Well the GF fell in love with this one... Wasnt any stopping at that point. Its pretty clean. Needs a little TLC on some of the wear parts but Im thinking we can get it back in shape to tow for us.

Congrats on the Excursion. Back in 07, we looked at a V10 one and I fell in love with the thing. Wife vetoed it because it was too long. I can't help but think that if I would've bought the thing that we'd still be driving it today.
I'm done. This isn't a place to be helpful. It's a place where curmudgeons with a superiority complex will nit pick everything. If you want help, go elsewhere. Admin, delete my account please.

Nice score! Love the looks! Just beware aggressive off road tires "can" be a bit squirrely on the interstate. Hoping it tows solid as a train on rails for you!

Yeah.. Im looking to upgrade the front suspension and adding a rear sway bar. Hopefully that will get me on the right track.
