Just to be sure: tire pressure

Hi,
I got new tires at Les Schwab for my trailer for this trip from California to Yellowstone.

The trailer sticker says 50. I know to look at the tire itself, which says max psi 65.

Les Schwab says to have the tire pressure at 60 since it will be pretty hot going through Nevada, etc. This is where I put them but I always want to check here.

Thanks,
Ellie

Thanks, went out and put them all at 65. Skip, didn't use Chinese air, so I hope that is ok. LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

You obviously replaced the load range C tires that came with your trailer with load range D tires. Load range D tires need 65 PSI and it makes NO difference if it's hot or cold weather. Set them at 65 PSI when tires are cold (not yet driven on) and you are running the recommended pressure. If you feel you must adjust for temperature you'd have to pull over and change air pressure every time you took the sunlight on a different angle or every time you went up a mountain or down one. The manufacturer KNOWS tires very for a whole LOT of different reasons and they STILL have a recommendation of 65 PSI cold. BELIEVE me your Chinese made tires will need all the help they can get so air them up.

The biggest thing you can do to have dependable tire service the entire life of the tire is proper pressure. Yes, I run mine always at maximum, also. And check them for any trip over 5 miles.

They are "Gladiator" tires. Never heard of them but hope they will do.

LS is a great place to buy tires but unfortunately they don't always know what they're talking about and what they're suggesting will make them run hotter not cooler. The pressure you have in your tires has NOTHING to do with out-side temps. It has everything to do with how much they're carrying.
You will actually cause more strain on them and they will run hotter if they are under inflated because they have to flex more.
Since ST tires are so marginal in quality to start with, I would run them at max sidewall pressure to ensure they handle the load and make life as easy on them as possible, especially in an environment like the desert.
And if they sold you Carlisle brand tires, take them back and demand Maxxiss - which they will begrudgingly order.
