Lance 1172

Thinking of pulling the trigger on an 1172. Any comments good, bad or otherwise on these units? I'd like to get a Mammoth, but don't really want to buy a 5500. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with one on a one ton.

Choosing the camper that is best for you is not going to be easy as it often is matter of sacrificing one option for the other.
I switched from basement TC to one (same length) with side entry and got argument from DW that side entry has less wardrobe space.
I look at new 3-sliders and THEY DON'T HAVE WARDROBE AT ALL.
Make sure that will work for you.
Bottom line for me, I can live with less storage space, but most of the time it boils to kitchen that has counter top big enough to put more than 2 cups, or shower stall that will not make constant curtain fight.
2 inches more here and there can make heck of the difference.
Also lot of basement models tend to create "stairway adventure".
We do have small dogs and they take glow steps better than build-in ones.
BTW my 2017 F350 dually carries 6500lb without modifications just fine.

Why purchase the Lance if you really want the Mammoth? If you really want the Mammoth then get the truck to haul it.

Want the Mammoth (or Everest) but don't want the truck to go with it..... hence looking at the Lance which seemed to be a tad lighter.

Host is honest with their weights. When we ordered ours from Host the general manager sat down with us and could tell us exactly what every option weighed and after filling out the build sheet he told us what it would weigh within a very small margin of variance. In general I wouldn't place much value in manufacturer claimed weights but Host really does break it down and stand behind their numbers.

The base weights of the Lance and the Mammoth are comparable. The mammoth with zero options weighs just under 4,000 pounds. According to Lance website they are at just over 4,000 pounds with std equipment.

The Host has larger holding tanks but you can always control how much water you put in.

Ours sticker is at 4,361 (without generator and rear sofa (putting a recliner)

That's interesting. I figured there would be more of a spread with one less slide.

FWIW I do not know the tech differences between them other than tank capacities which go to the Host.

We were at a Lance rally this past weekend and had a 1172 in the spot next to us that we toured. It is a nice TC for sure.

Also at the rally was a ex-Lance owner who stays in contact with the group and now has a Host Mammoth which we also toured. My DW has never liked a TC but when she climbed in the Host she said "WOW" I like this. It had the high/low table option and rear couch. It was very nice for sure. The Lance felt sterile inside in caparison to the Host. We also liked the floor plan better; especially the bathroom.

The long storage drawer looked much more useful than all the nooks and crannies I watched my neighbor with the 1172 pack his rig up in.

If the money is there for the 5500 and the Host AND it is what you like better, you already have answered your question.

FWIW I would go with the Host and 5500.
