Latch Replacement

I need to replace the catch that holds the entry door open and the baggage latch on my TT. There appears to be some kind of putty behind each bracket as water proofing. Does anyone know what it is? I'd like to keep my TT dry and avoid any future problems.

Common butyl tape that's used around the windows, etc. Plumbers putty in the small cans is pretty much the same.
