Magic Water

So we were recently out for our longest trip so far. We took our new 2012 Crossroads Z-1 out for a full week (8 days). During that time we had some normal nasty afternoon Florida storms move through while we were out. When we got back my wife asked if I spilled a bottle of water in the bedroom. Turns out the bottom of a laptop bag I had next to the bed was wet.

I didn't think much of it at the time. We recently had some nasty storms move through so after work one day I stopped by our storage facility and checked and there was a small puddle of water right where that bag was. Here is a pic...

I checked around the window. Nothing wet. I looked at the roof. Nothing. I felt around the wall. Nothing. I could find no evidence of water other than the puddle on the floor. Obviously this puddle is quite small - but the wetness of the laptop bag was quite a bit more serious.

Any ideas where this is coming from? Should I worry about it?

Thanks.

Yeah but I suppose he had a point. Not the "you get what you deserve" comment - that wasn't helpful. But this has been a lesson learned for me (and hopefully others that read this). If you're still under warranty and you notice absolutely anything that may be a problem then TAKE IT BACK to your dealer. No matter how small the problem seems. It could end up being much more serious after your warranty has expired and you may not get as lucky as I did.

I'd like to thank Crossroads! I had to send a few emails and make a few calls but in the end they did cover the repair. It turns out there was a problem with the seal around the window and even though it was a couple months out of warranty Crossroads covered it.

The dealer initially quoted me three hours to do the repair (out of warranty at my own cost). After talking with Crossroads they said they would cover it but it shouldn't take anywhere near that long to reseal a window. They offered to call the dealer and deal with it. I thanked them and they did.

I talked to the dealer a couple days later who seemed annoyed that Crossroads questioned how long it would take. Long story short I got the paperwork today when I picked it up and it was only 1.5 hours, all covered by Crossroads.

Of course when we picked it up the dealer couldn't find the keys and when they did I found the screen, blinds, and window covering just sitting on the bed. The battery was completely dead because they left the light on, etc. I put everything back on and pulled it back to storage.

I'm surprised and very happy that Crossroads covered it. To me, it wasn't really about the money, but what I thought was the right thing. They did the right thing and I appreciate it.

Thanks Crossroads!

I had no idea how it was entering from the exterior. I looked around the seals on the window but didn't think to look closely at the bottom. Apparently the water was entering along a gap in the seal around the bottom of the window and travelling inside the wall and seeping out and puddling.

The puddle (or puddles in this case now) were always around the center of the floor. By the time I saw the water there was no evidence other than the puddle itself. The walls and surrounding floor were completely dry by the time I noticed the problem.

I contacted someone else at Crossroads this morning and explained the entire situation. I also forwarded a link to this thread along with the original photos. They are sending all the info along to a warranty manager for further "consideration."

We'll see what happens.

They could even send you a release to sign stating that any damages known/unknown that may have resulted from the water is not covered. It could further state that they are providing the repairs simply as a courtesy not as a covered claim.

Although that is what you SHOULD have done, I would expect Crossroads to step up in some form considering you have this thread (dated) as some evidence.

That was my thought as well. I sent the original pics (dated) and a link to this thread to the Crossroads support tech. I haven't heard back from him at ALL since his original email to me that asked me to pass on his contact info to the dealer. I only heard about their denial to cover it from the dealer.

Seriously, how much would it cost for Crossroads to reseal the window and replace the trim? Is there extensive damage elsewhere aside from what you showed?

Nope. Not from what the dealer said. They said they'll have to remove the window and reseal it and replace the trim along the wall (and some other part related to the window.. a baffle or something maybe?).

Although that is what you SHOULD have done, I would expect Crossroads to step up in some form considering you have this thread (dated) as some evidence. Your actions since then were not ideal, but I also wouldn't consider them outrageous considering the lack of damage at the time.

With a dozen years of experience in insurance claims, I can say that exceptions are sometimes made by a company putting customer service first.

It turns out it was the seal on the bottom of the window. Apparently that's why I didn't notice the problem when checking after a normal rainstorm. It needed a pretty significant downpour for water to get in. It's two months out of the one year warranty and even though I've sent Crossroads evidence that the problem existed during the warranty period they've decided to deny the claim.

Thanks Crossroads.

I should have done as others suggested in this thread and towed it back to the dealer as soon as I noticed a possible problem. Live and learn.

Coulda-shoulda-woulda. Nothing I can do about that now.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone else has run into a similar manufacturer type defect just months out of warranty. The walls and floors still seem firm with no softness so I'm hoping there isn't any serious damage and a simple leak seal will fix the problem.

Don't think they should cover it honestly. You were urged on this thread many times to take it in asap, now it's time to pay up.

I should have just taken it in to the dealer and said "I found a small puddle on the floor." I never had any more information or evidence other than the puddle until now. Thanks for your support.

check around the outside of the TT where the leak is. We had a leak that appeared around the stereo. It, the stereo, is eye level in a cabinet in the kitchen/living area. Checked the roof and the antenna wasn't caulked/sealed very well. Patched it up and all has been dry to date.
