Members welcoming fellow members

Original post--
You know, I got to thinkin. Those of you who know me know that's dangerous. This is only a thought, I thought I'd throw it out there.

All of us travel. Duh, that's why we have campers. Who all would be interested in putting there names on a list of "Members Welcome". A list of members that welcomes other members to stay the night in their driveway when they're on the road.

Of course, opting-in would be completely optional. My thought here is that a list is done up with only screen names. When a member is planning on being in the area, they forum-email the other member for the address and see if that member is available to welcome guests that night. That way, the address is not out in the public and no unexpected surprises happen.

Just a thought.

Edited 1-6-2014

We are going to clean out the list and start a new one. Go to the post dated 1-3-2014 for more info.

Here is the latest "cleaned up" list.

And yes, it's a screenshot, not a text-list. Sorry. The forum doesn't support any kind of formatting, like tables or tabs, so when I tried to list it as text it looked like a jumbled mess.

Yes, everything from ATV to Hummers... and Brad with his Jeep or trailJ with his.

It's 6 miles from our house, tellico/stateline is about 1 1/2 hours away.

I've made the list in Excel, it can be easily sorted by any criteria. When I try and make it look organized on the forum by making columns, it doesn't work.

I'll also put down the Lat/Longs of each town listed, so that it can be easily imported into any mapping program, like DeLorme or MS Streets & Trips.

Since I have both of those mapping programs, what I'll do is make an export file for each one, the Excel spreadsheet, and finally a tab-delimited CSV file, then upload them all onto my private web server. This is not searchable by search engines (outsiders wouldn't/can't see it), you can only find it by me posting the link.

The export file can simply be downloaded, double clicked on, opened, and whola! Everyone has a dot on the map, with a quick descriptor of name and services. The Excel and CSV files can be used by mapping software other than the two listed and imported.

I'm tied up this weekend, clamming is open at the beach, I'll get to it later next week.

Hi Gary,

Consider this your invitation... stay in the driveway or at least call... we'll take you for dinner.

If you are here that often... are you going to Windrock?

I must be old fashioned... I think that I'd rather be invited... by PM.

I do remember and value the invitations... for example we had one from Santa Barbara, CA that I look forward to accepting. We were heading north in Calif when we got it.

I have found that if I post where our current location under my name when I make posts people that are in the area or even people in other areas can offer.

There have been a few classmates that I'd like to see. When I know that we'll be in their area I'll contact them and ask them out to dinner in an area close by... they can offer a visit or opt out. They have their own reasons but won't be embarressed or feel stressed by the extra preparation they feel that they must do to get ready to see us.

I don't mind be asked though.... even enjoy the requests.
