New TT Owner

Hello, new to the board! I've been reading thru alot of the stuff on this site and it's just amazing all the ideas that you all have come up with.

We recently bought a new TT and are new to the TT world. One thing that I didn't realize was how common the locks are on these.

I'm wondering if there is somewhere that I can buy new locks that have a more "uncommon" lock and key? I'm more concerned in just storage parking and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I replaced my storage locks with a different number from an r.v. shop. There maybe thousands of these locks out there too, but if a thief is planning on opening them with a 751 key it won't work and he won't know what number key to use and I doubt if he's going to be carrying a pocket full of keys so he's going to have too break into it, oh yeah it's going to be damaged but he's going too make more noise and my insurance company will be a lot happier that they were locked. Unlocked you may have to argue for payment on your claim. Insurance companies don't like it when you leave something unlocked.

Welcome to the forum and TT RVing. Most people don't bother replacing the 751 locks. The doors can be easily opened with a screwdriver and then you have to replace the door and contents.

Before you replace storage compartment locks, consider what's behind them. The stuff we store in those area's is usually not worth much and a thief could easily pry open the doors if he want's in. The cost of repairs would greatly exceed what we're trying to protect.
FWIW, I just leave mine unlocked all the time. If I lose a a hose or dog-bone it's a lot cheaper than fixing a door. I've never had anything taken from in there though.

My understanding is that the main entry door deadbolt lock is not common. The typical outside storage compartment latches are common. Slam latches on storage compartments have uncommon keys.

Welcome to the forums. My friend who is a locksmith says the doors are virtually impossible to break into. Anyone can get in the windows. The other locks keep stuff from falling out. You can probably go to a locksmith and get some made but it'd be easier to empty them.
