Norcold Fridge Question

Hello all,

Matt here, and I am new to the RV life (but loving it so far!). I have a 2018 StarCraft with Norcold fridges. Up to this point, it has been working fine. This week, I went to kick it on (Gas) and the lights were real dim (hardly showing), and nothing. At that point, I knew I needed a new battery, so I replaced it. I hooked it to shore power, same issue, even with a new battery.

I let it sit for a few hours, turned it to gas and the lights appeared correct, but the gas light went solid quickly, even on auto, the lights were normal. Then the issue was, it would not cool. Lights are not, but nothing seems to be happening.

Any ideas? Appreciate any help or suggestions. Taking it will cost $150 hour, so I am hoping to avoid that 🙂

Good suggestion from Caveman. At elevation, I usually have to open the back of the fridge and as suggested, move the little cover that exposes the pilot light. If you've turned on your stove and gotten it to light, you could also try to manually light the pilot light for the fridge.
I'm presuming you're not at elevation over 5000 feet? I'm right at 5000 feet and my Norcold lights fine, but at 9000 feet I have to manually light it.

Not sure what the condition of the light is. If it is solid red, you may have a gas valve lockout. Anyway, your manual has a trouble shooting section that relies on you reading the exact status of light or lights. Read up on that and give us some more information.

You may have low voltage, gas valve lockout, a blown fuse, or a number of other problems.

Are you sure the gas is lighting ? On my camper I can go outside open the outer door where the fridge is and by sliding open a little cover I can see the flame.

Also, (Though this is no related to the fridge), why did your battery go dead ? Is it charging up correctly when you are plugged in ?

Put a glass of water in fridge, to test temp, using a thermometer, after leaving the fridge operating till tomorrow.

To get propane flowing, after extended shut down, it normally helps to light a stove burner first.

I have a Norcold N611RT. I am going to let it sit till tomorrow (more than 48 hours sitting) and try again, perhaps I went too fast. Any other ideas would be appreciated!

Unless you treat your new battery well (if not Lithium by recharging daily and if unsealed checking the water level) it will quickly become an "old" battery needing replacement. Suggest you read about RV battery basics.

Are you saying it wont work on both gas or electric? You do realize that it can take a long time to reach proper cooling (such as overnight)? You said it has been working fine. Was that just recently, or last season? If it hasn't been used for a while, it can take some time for the propane to fill the lines.
