Bushtracker builds super family van
Now in its 20th year Queenslandโs Bushtracker shows no signs of slowing down, unveiling a new family off-road caravan at this yearโs Queensland Caravan Supershow loaded with latest products designed to keep the custom build specialist ahead of the off-road pack.
The companyโs latest prototype van, a 20ft fibreglass model with triple bunks and 2800kg Tare,(6100lb, basic weight, not GCVWR)is bristling with new features and technology that if pass the test will join an already extensive list of options available to Bushtrackerโs discerning and cashed-up buyers.
These include the just-released Simplicity heavy-duty independent trailing arm coil suspension with variable rate springs and dampers that can be fitted with either drum or disc brakes.
Construction-wise, the new Bushtracker van also features the latest Italian-made fibreglass exterior cladding, marine-style double latching cupboard catches, a new attachment for riveting the wall and ceiling panels together, and an aluminium toolbox mounted on the A-frame for housing a generator.
Following the latest, gas-free trend the van also debuts a diesel-powered 4kW continuous hot water system and Webasto glass/ceramic cook-top, which means no venting is required for gas appliances.
Also being trialled is the latest Enerdrive ePro Combi 3000W/120A invertor/charger, a 300Ah lithium battery pack and high efficiency 150W solar panels mounted above the roof to allow air flow, all of which can be operated via remote control.
Also new for Bushtracker is the latest Camec 4kg front loading washing machine, Truma Climaster air conditioner, a 32in LED TV mounted externally in a dust and waterproof locker, electric fold-down entry steps, Fusion illuminated speakers and subwoofer, and an Amplimesh security door.
Bushtracker is also testing a new type of reflective awning fabric from Aussie Traveller that features a metallic coated fabric less likely to heat up in the sun, and a super-sized Vitrifrigo 250 litre twin Danfoss compressor, stainless steel fridge/freezer with 70 litre pull-out bottom freezer and new fridge circulation fan for frost-free operation.
โWe like to do our own testing as the guinea pigs, so we tend to manufacture a test caravan with the products in there first, give it a good test and if it obviously makes the grade weโll offer it to customers from there,โ explained Bustracker manager Matthew Kurvink, who plans to take his family away in the van soon as part of the testing.
Standard features on Bushtracker's 20ft off-road van include a queens sized bed, full height slide out pantry, leather covered cafรฉ dinette, combined shower/toilet and a UV water sterilisation unit.
There's peace of mind though, with all Bushtracker vans now covered by a 10 year warranty on chassis and aluminium framework, to go with the existing three year caravan warranty.

Those are pretty slick trailers! It looks like it would be good and tough. I especially like how they made the basket up near the tongue to hold a generator and the angled back end for clearance
