We are looking at a 29' puma camper with a slide . It's dry weight is 6500lbs. I would be towing with a 1500 chevy suburban. The manual says it will tow 8100lbs. I know the 6500 lbs is the trailer empty. Of course I will add some to it when we pack it up. My question is ....is that too much for my half ton? Should I move on to the next one? We like this floor plan but I do not want to sacrifice safety. Of course the salesman says it will tow it but I am unsure...what do y'all think?

I have zero to add.. As the others have said you are in 3/4 Ton territory due to payload capacity.

No doubt a vunderhalf tower will come on here and give their blessing to you. However the advice you have received is sound.

Dry weight has little meaning. Often that does not include options such as air conditioner awning microwave, etc. You would be better served to always use the trailers Gross Vehicle weight rating.

Let's just say you are weighing about 7800 lbs trip ready. You are looking at about 1100 lbs. of tongue weight.
Add that to the weight of all passengers(kids and dog), all gear in the Burb, the hitch, etc and see how it stacks up against the PAYLOAD you have available.

Probably close or over for a 1500 Burb.

OR...you can upgrade to a 3/4 ton Suburban. Gives you a little more tow, but way more stable in towing @96oo#, versus the 1/2 ton @8100. I know from experience, going to the 3/4 ton changed everything. Passing people, getting pased, ride and confidence that the vehcle could handle the load. Still have the 3/4 ton Suburban, sold the TT, mine is also a 4X4, so it can go anywhere. Just my 2cents.

That is way to much weight for your suburban. Once you factor in the weight of all the cargo in the trailer, plus weight of occupants of the vehicle you will most likely be over the payload rating for your suburban. I would reccomend staying at a trailer around 6500 loaded.
