Passport recall

Received notice of a recall on our Passport trailer. Has something to do with the thermostat and possible electrical short involving the air conditioner. Have an appointment to get it repaired, but curious as to what specifically it involves. Opened the thermostat and there are only three wires. The old thermostat I had on a 2010 trailr had 6(?). This thermostat is digital, if that makes a difference.

Why is it when someone ask a question about a situation, then every one goes and takes the part apart JUST to see if they can fix it.. IF it is a RECALL let the dealer take care of it, Gheehsz. . It only takes about 20 minutes and it is free, For your safety have a pro check it out, and to the poor sole in Canada, get on the dealers case.

Well that's my 2p.

Not all cases are as simple as you imagine! In my case, the trailer was purchased in Cleveland OH near my home. The trailer is now in winter storage near Mt. Airy NC about 430 miles away. It will take me a full day to drive down to Mt. Airy to get to the trailer then two days to haul it back to Cleveland so the dealer can do that 20 minute check. It will then take a two day haul to get the trailer back to Mt. Airy so that I can start my spring trip.

Gheehsz. . you have to be missing a few screws to haul a trailer 4 days just so the dealer can do a simple 20 minute inspection when you can check it yourself in less than 5 minutes.

There is no issue with the thermostat itself. The warning is for the thermostat WIRES where they connect inside the air conditioner. They may have been installed not following manufactures requirements. Since those wires are not fused, a short may cause the circuit boards to overheat and possible catch fire (not a very high probability). The dealer will open up the air conditioner cover and inspect the wires and connections and repair them if they appear to be damaged. You can check the wires yourself by removing the inside air filter cover. The wires should be plainly visible.

I got the same recall about 1.5 years ago for my Keystone Bullet. I’m still waiting for my dealer to “get around to it”. I believe it is just a matter of separating the wires to prevent a short.
