When an RV dealer tells you the weight, they are usually giving you the dry/shipping weight. It will be much heavier loaded, ready to camp. This is why I mentioned to look at TT GVWR, which is the max weight for that trailer.

A dry weight of 4700, could easily be 6,000+ lbs loaded to camp.

Would like a 24 or 26ft travel trailer. No slide outs saw one we liked that they said weighed about 4700 lbs we would be ok with that

Those kind of 'ratings' tells me it's just some big SUV that has lots of passenger seats, but not much "power".. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Can you hitch up a #6100 TT and tow it down the road? Sure.... I could do that with my wife's RAV 4 that can't get out of it's own way as far as I'm concerned... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Would I be happy with the towing performance? No..

It might help us know what kind of RV you are interested in and go from there?

Some are fine with a little pop up tent trailer, but some need 30'+ rigs to camp with.. ๐Ÿ™‚

If it is 6100 lbs. then you have a good bit of lee way. I tow a 24 ft TT with a Ford F150. I know you can haul at least that and probaly more. You can talk to a local Chevy dealer and they will confirm the maximum weight to haul. I would stay under the maxium because you will load the TT with a lot of gear, we all do.

Depends.... What are the tow ratings of the truck? What is the payload of the truck? What kind of TT are you looking at? Have your ever towed anything before? Have you ever driven a truck before? Are you a Democrat or a Republican?? Other?? ha, ha! ๐Ÿ™‚

trailer life.com has a towing list with weights. you will need to know axle ratios, long box or short, year etc.

If you're not sure what you are looking at on the label, take a photo of the sticker in the door jamb, black out your VIN if you want, and post it. Ditto tire sticker and if there is into in the glove box or owner's manual. I don't have anything in my glove box but I think newer trucks do.

With that info here, folks can help. Also, are tires P or LT? Most likely P but need to check.

If you look at the yellow tire loading sticker on the driver's door jam, it will say total not to exceed xxxx, which includes everything in the truck, plus the trailer hitch, plus tongue weight.

To figure tongue weight, look at the TT GVWR, on front driver's side of trailer. About 12-13 percent of this number will be close to the loaded tongue weight of the trailer.

Like mentioned above, more info for the truck would be needed for more advice.

Your answers differ because a lot of people don't really know about towing requirements (including dealers), and because the information you have provided isn't enough for any sort of educated opinion. What you need to know is your truck's payload capacity, GVWR, its axle ratings (GAWR) and a few other things. Knowing its axle ratio would be helpful, engine size is important, etc. Does it have a tow rating? That's another helpful (but not definitive) figure. Check your owners manual and the stickers/plaques on the door frame for some of these figures.

Good luck!
