Power usage!?

My power bill was $173 last month!
I have a shop next door to my TT, but I have barely been out in the shop at all last month, haven't run HVAC or anything at all there.

As for the TT, I run the furnace here on 65* but it isn't getting that cold anymore.

Heres what the bill said: total kWh-1638, days-32, kWh per day-51,
Avg low temp-47, Avg high temp-64.

I keep it between 75-73* (A/C)fgtgvfhjnmjbgvjbn in here, I run a 12v fan that claims to use only a watt on high, and I sometimes leave my sleeping fan on 24/7, but its a little 8" Honeywell. I use a 40" LED flat screen, PC, and game console daily. The PC is a small tower BTW. Does all that add up to $173?

1638 is a lot of power for a trailer. Are you using electric heat? Or something is left on in the shop.

What was the previous month kWh usage?
1638 is crazy high for just a trailer IMO.

I'm with you!!! I hate to say this but we just sold our stick built house last fall and the KWH cost was $.05!!!!!!! DANG.....dumb dumb dumb LOL

And to OPer --- a thought tonight... You might have them come out and read the meter again...or have them check their computer (for those that read from the office - new electronic things). Someone may have made a mistake. I had an argument with an electric company one time...went thru PUC commissioner's office finally. They came out and read the meter again. Turns out someone was reading wrong...and had written down the wrong #s.

Wow, surprised to see the KWh rates you guys have. I feel guilty saying I average around 7.5 to 8 cents per KWh here in the PNW. Good ol' hydro :).

$173 divided by 1638kWh = 10.56 cents per kWh. I wish my electric rate was that low, my previous 2 bills were 20 cents per kWh. :M (Last month my house used 397 kWh and it cost $79.69)

1,638 kWh for 32 days = 51 kWh PER DAY or 2.13 kWh per hour. That seems like a lot to average over 2,000 watts per hour in a 24 hour day.

For the amount of KWH used, you could power 50 new Samsung refrigerators. I'm guessing you have a few appliances that are energy hogs. Anything with a compressor and motor is going to use a fair bit of power. If your converter is putting out 50 amps, battling a bad battery, that will be a pig, too. Any heating coils are inefficient use of power, like heaters, toasters, hair dryers, etc. 1500 KWH/mo. is a fairly big use. We have three living in the S&B and we don't use about a half of that. The trailer is puttering along on solar and it isn't even Spring Cleanup in MN, yet.

Your refrigerator running on electric can consume about 3-4 KW per day!

Make sure that the refrigerator is off, until about 1 day before packing for a trip. It will cool on gas much faster than running on electric.

ALso your battery will consume about 40 amp hours daily (at 12 volts), or about 500 watts per day. If you unplug your RV, you risk the batteries going bad, and that will be nearly as much as your entire electric bill. So I would leave the RV plugged in, but shut off the power consuming refrigerator and propane leak detector. This will reduce the RV's power consumption from a potential 5 KW daily to less than 300 watts per day.

Your old tower computer can also consume a lot of power. While a laptop will normally only use about 20 watts, the towers normally came with a 250 watt power supply, and if using a old CRT tube type display, it can use an additional 200 watts! Only about 20 - 25 watts for a flat screen computer display.

I saw some 'all in one' computers at Best Buy, where it has a flat screen, with the DVD player mounted inside the screen, and hard drive in the same package (thus all in one package) for less than $500. This would also consume about what a laptop computer would use - around 20 -40 watts per hour, but not have the battery back up, or be as portable.

I changed some of my lighting loads to 12 VDC and used 24 LED panels to light up my house exterior, and I am planning on installing some inside as well, as soon as I figure out where I will be running the wires and stuff.

Can't find the cost per kWh on my bill lol.
I used to own a 60X30 double wide that it's A/C was a ton to small, 95* plus temps costed over 2600 kWh!

I'm about to move out of this thing anyway, getting a house built off the shop soon.

My converter on float charge and my refrigerator use about $25 a month along. My electricity is about $.12 per Kwh.
You're seems high considering the average home in this country only uses 1,000 KWh per month.

You didn't say what the charge is per KW hour. My only suggestion is to look at what you have on now that you didn't have on last year this month. That might give you a clue as to what's sucking up the $$. Also, see if they changed the charge per KWH
