Purchasing new trailer. Question on axles...

Were looking at purchasing a new or slightly used trailer but from what I see now, may of them still come with smaller tires. I'm a little confused as the one I am looking at is an Innbruck 295SBW. 7300 dry with 2700 cargo capacity. It still has the small 5 lug 205/75/15 tires. I would have thought a trailer that size would have the 6 lug now. Any thoughts. Are they 5000lbs axles?

But the question is more so would you prefer to be close to your axle rating, or have more "reserve cushion"? Myself, I prefer the reserve cushion. With 7700lbs on the trailer axles (still need to reweigh after some changes/mods, probably about 8k, if not a little over now) I would prefer almost a 10k lb axle rating vs a 8800lb rating. Though maybe my thoughts on this are crazy! Lol Scary thing is I have the same thoughts in regards to the tires....

Mkos,

If you do go look at that Innbruck, try to look on the backside of a wheel for a weight rating, even if it's the spare tire. I would have to do a little searching, but from memory I don't recall but maybe one rim that I found rated for about 2500lbs in a 15"/5 bolt. Seems most were about 2100lbs.....

I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear that trailer has "enough" axles under it.

Good luck in your shopping adventure and keep us posted!

Only way to know the axle raging for sure is to either contact the manufacture with the specific model, or crawl under the trailer.

One thing I found when we were shopping last July is some manufactures add in the dry tw (seemed to be that amount) to the axle rating for a higher gvwr. We looked at a tt that had 2-4400lb axles, but about a 9500lb gvwr, with a dry tw of about 700lbs....

Guess what tt we didn't buy!!! Lol

Bought a tt with 2-5000lb axles and a 99XXlb gvwr.
