Rockwood Roo 17 Floor Project

Hello all. I got this 17 foot Rockwood Roo from my parents and the price was right...FREE!

I knew it had a soft floor so I figured I'd start a thread to document the floor replacement and look for some advice along the way. Apparently there was a leak in the past that was fixed but as you can see the tarp under the trailer does an excellent job of keeping water out, as well as in.

Other than the floor issue the trailer is in excellent shape.

Here are a few photos to start things off. It's pouring down rain this week so there's now much getting done yet, but the inside of the unit seems dry after all of this week's rain.

Bringing it home. (It's been sitting for 2+ years)

Pulling up the "vinyl" I've never seen paper backed vinyl.

Yup, the floor is rotted and delaminated. The aluminum stringers are still in one piece though. :B

I am tackling a similar project on our HTT. Luckily you have the aluminum cross beams. In mine its only on the perimeter so I had to build new floor panels with some support added. We used steel framing studs from Home Depot to keep the weight down.
We have the tarp like bottom in ours as well, which is in a great shape still actually.

I should probably take pictures of mine as we go along to share with people here for future reference.

Best of luck.

Keep us updated! This is a '07? Looks to be worth the effort since you have the skills!

Photos nearly made me sick earlier this morning. I've never seen the floor structure before. The cored floor sections serve as insulation and their construction makes them quite stiff although they appear to be non structural and just fit between the aluminum joists.

It's a sandwich that was, at one point, glued together. VERY thin luan plywood on the top and bottom with a Styrofoam core.

In the pic below you can see the dark top and bottom that are the remains of the luan. The only ply remaining on this sample is the ply that was glued to the foam. The remainder of the plys fell apart.

Judging by the straight lines of ply remaining on the bottom tarp you can see how the tarp is glued to the bottom layer of luan.

That's an awesome price for sure. Lol
Did I read that right? A tarp under the trailer? Why?

What kind of floor are you planning on putting down?
If I ever have to redo our floor (hope I never do though) we are going to put in something to make it look like wood floors. I doubt you can put real wood down but not positive.

Good luck with the project and keep updating when you can.
