Newbie here again, I know there is a "pool school" for new pool owners but is there such a thing for new TT owners? Recently purchased a 93 Terry TT and really have no idea what I'm doing. LOL

It took me 40 minutes to get my relatively short trailer past the nose of the 5th wheel parked next to me in my complexes RV parking. Not a lot of room with a fence in the mix, plus he is 3 feet longer than our rules allow, he argued the length on his 5th is marked, but i measured it, it does not include the overhang which my trailer will not fit under. There is a guy in another spot i could switch with who has a very small truck camper, but he is dying so I do not want to bother him or his wife at this time.

Ken, you were able to back up on your first trip?? You must have better coordination than I do -- it took me many days of practice in a nearby parking lot, with DW's help. A lot of trailering is learning by doing.

Wife and I were 56 when we bought our 1st trailer, a 23ft. Starcraft Autumn Ridge. I had never pulled a trailer of any kind before in my life and was a bit concerned too when we picked it up. It was a piece of cake. I was comfortable with it by the time we got home and even backed it into the driveway with little effort. Just take your time and increase your following distance and have fun. And yes, we have already upgraded, after 2 yrs. with the 1st. one, to a 28ft Coleman 268rk with a slide. We are taking "the big trip" out west the end of August. It will be my first experience with REAL mountains. This forum has been my source of education. Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge.

X2 to this is the place.

To get the most out of the forum read other posts, use the search feature and ask specific questions.

Another approach is to join the Good Sam club, join the local chapter and you will meet other RVers who hopefully will be willing to help a newbee.

Edit: I just read your profile and see you are a life member although your post doesn't show it.:h You have already taken the first step.:)

A lot depends on your mindset and experience. If you came up though the tent, PUP, TT route, one is just an extension of the previous and you learned to ask questions along the way.

The library, book stores and now the internet combined with other campers were the methods many used to answer questions.

However, reading is not doing, and like swimming, knowledge comes when you finally dive in.

Actually, this is the place right here! Just by asking questions on this website and reading lots of posts, I have learned a tremendous amount about towing mirrors, backing up, routine maintenance, camping tips, wheel chocks, modifications, destinations, water, gray water, black water, batteries, tires, blackout curtains, fridges, stoves, plumbing, water pumps, propane, roof repair, window repair, tow vehicles, safety, bedding, kitchen accessories, recipes, bugs, solar power, generators, etc. You get the idea -- I am sure there are more categories but I can't remember them all.

The only rules are these: there are no dumb questions. Better to ask than to make an expensive misteak. Ignore the occasional rude flamer who criticizes you for asking questions -- most of us here are anxious to help -- we remember what it was like to be a clueless newbie. And don't try to do everything at once. Start slow, be patient with yourself and your family, and have a sense of humor.

Having worked in 3 different RV and mobile home plants right out of high school I can say one thing, I want an RV built on Wednesday or Thursday.

There all built the same but the turn over is very high as well as no-shows and hang overs coupled with bad attitudes for the most part waiting for a better job.

Most rvers learn by word of mouth and the school of hard nocks. It's hard to sift through all the different opinions and arguments here sometimes but sometimes there's more than one way to skin a cat in which both may be right in there own way.

One shoe doesn't fit everyone so one has to try different things to see what works best for them.

There is a variety of information available on camping, driving, maintenance etc on the internet and paper.

Suggestion: Take the first trip or two with an experienced friend who can help with missing supplies and offer suggestions or camp near stores so that you can stock up.
