Sales tax, tag, and registration?

I'm thinking of buying a TC from a dealership in GA; I live in TN. From what I could find out sales tax is .07 in TN plus about $81 fees for rv's over $1600. You have to pay the tax to register and title in your state? Do you have to pay a renewal fee every year even though a TC doesn't need a Tag? I guess some people don't register or title their TC? Is that even legal and acceptable? What if the bank has the lean on it,they will need a title right? I guess the insurance Co just needs the vin. I know tc' s are somewhat different animal.

In no case would a TC have it's own tag right? Only displaying the truck tag if otherwise obscuring it?

What is a "memo title"? Is there a place to check which states consider a TC cargo and not taxable as a vehicle?

Yes, Google it. About a dozen states or so register TCs.
Really only matter for your primary residence state though.

Yes, google it. But it really only matters for your resident state.

I have yet to register either of my used TCs here. Like Sidecar, first, I pay enough taxes for 3-4 people already and I all but refuse to pay tax on something that's been taxed once already. I always seem to have a spare license plate with a valid sticker. I just slap one on the camper when we use it.
And yes, if you have a loan the bank couldn't give 2 schitts whether you paid tax or not.

Lot of states consider TC a cargo so no tax involved.
I bought my last camper from dealer in AZ and brought it to NV. No pink slip, no registration, just BOS.
Somehow dealer charged me AZ sale tax.
I did not argue as it wasn't that much on good deal, but I don't think I should pay the sale tax?

Some states require sales tax to be paid base on point of delivery. I.E. I just bought a new trailer from a dealer in WIsconsin last week and by law should have paid sales tax there even though I'm a WA resident. I told the dealer I would "take delivery" in another state or no deal. So I didn't pay sales tax. WA will still hit me for use tax if I register it here (same as sales tax basically), but I'm not, I'm done with it. One trip deal.
Anyone here in WA want to buy a brand new cargo trailer? Lol

Backtracking, Sidecar. Should I cheat Michigan on taxes should I get the opportunity? Easy to say yes or no.

What about sales tax on it in VA. Anybody dealt with this in TN?

Definitely check with TN. Here in VA there is no reg, title or fee on a TC. It is just cargo.

Go online to your state's website and look there or call a local secretary of state office tomorrow and ask them. I don't live where you are.

Told you I didn't want to elaborate but I will say this. I had a memo title on the Lance and when I paid it off I got the original title stamped lien discharged. Same with my new camper.

That has nothing to do with paying sales tax on it or if my state collects it or not and/or whether I choose to tell them if they do.

lenders don't give a hoot whether you pay state tax on a camper, all they care about is they hold the title, that is their guarantee you'll pay and their recourse if you don't.

Your state has nothing to do with that at all.

โ€œMy philosophy is, I pay more than enough taxes as it is. If I can circumvent paying more, I will. If bureaucrats weren't so wasteful with tax money, it wouldn't be an issue paying more taxes but as it is, they are and I'm not, if I can help it.L

Either catch me...OR...convince me you are not wasteful...OR...wonโ€™t pay taxes I know are due. Very convenient reasoning, Sidecar. And youโ€™ll never ever be convinced, correct? Thus never pay.
