Scary rollover on NYS Thruway Friday

Saw this just west of Syracuse on Friday afternoon. It was about 3/4 mile ahead of us. Didn't actually see it, but saw the dust cloud. Looked to be a single vehicle which was very lucky because traffic was pretty heavy. I live locally and never heard anything so I have to assume there were no, or minor, injuries, thankfully. I wasn't taking pics just watching where I was going so I'm not sure what TV was.

I think if you drive in panic mode thinking you are going to get into an accident any minute, that makes things worse because you are apt to overreact to any bad condition.

While you have to be alert, ready, and constantly monitoring conditions (especially traffic around you), you also need to be relaxed to a certain extent. White knuckles on the steering wheel for hours on end will wear you out pretty quickly. And it takes any joy out of the trip itself. For me, the journey is a big part of the overall experience.

It's seems like there have been a number of rollovers posted lately. Maybe I'm only noticing it now since I'm torn between a fifth wheel and tt. Every time I see something like this it steers me towards a fifth. But then again I'm sure there at 5-1 or greater tt to fw's out there.

Wouldn't deter me if I was looking at a TT. A month or so back there was a video on this Forum somewhere showing a Class A DP towing a toad on I-10 in Louisiana that blew a front tire and overturned in the media. It happens, you just do all you can to minimize the risk. With a TT, just match equipment as best you can (tow vehicle to TT), good weight distributing/sway control hitch if needed, meticulous attention to tow vehicle and TT tire maintenance/condition, TT loading/weight distribution and prudent driving. Have fun........

That is my worst nightmare when I'm towing our camper. I'm in an entirely different frame of mind when it's behind me. I really feel for these folks and can't imagine their fright. It can happen so fast, too. I guess we are always only a few milliseconds away from a severe accident. Thank God for his mercy.

I can only imagine the horror the family experienced. There's so many variables how accident of this nature happen. Myself, the Roof if the TT looks very new, (experience) ??. For conversation purposes, I'm sure we all have heard of how RV roll over accidents happening when TT wag becomes an out of control issue. Not to mention being surrounded in interstate traffic ( I live in Tampa ) plays it's roll. It takes that one (idiot) in front to make the oh so common maneuver where you are forced with a panic stop. A very possible and unfortunate reminder how towing accidents effect even the most experienced of drivers.

I thought the same thing about product placement.

G-half can always find a way to do things upside-down, inside-out or backward.

Looks like a class-c will be the guaranteed purchase for the rental fleet across from the rollover.

Hopefully no one was hurt! We traveled on that section of the thruway earlier this summer. The road is in terrible condition and we pay for the privilege of driving on it. It is a wonder that there are not more accidents.

I was looking at it wrong. That's actually the inside of the open hood. At first it looked like it was a flat front end and the steer tires were far forward. Like an old Ford van (which would make no sense considering how new/clean the undercarriage looks.

Mooky seems right...looks like a Sequoia.

Yep! I think you're right, mooky. If you google images of the Sequoia, the lower front it is similar to the Nissan, but with a squared off section around the fog lights.

I can't be sure, but as I went by I thought I saw a Yota emblem on the rear of it. Possibly a Sequoia?

I could be wrong, but from the looks of the lower portion of the front bumper, I think it is a Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder.
I thought Nissan as well; it appears the grill comes up with the hood like an older Ram, so I was thinking either Nissan or Toyota...
