Suggest a TPMS.

Our first travel trailer is arriving tomorrow, dual axles 4200 lb 24'. Would like to add a TPMS. Thanks for any thoughts.

I had this happen to me. The bolt (3/8 by 3 inches) was picked up on the highway.



My TMPS was showing a slow loss of pressure. I was on I40 going toward Kingman AZ. A very busy highway with a lot of truck traffic.

Not a good place to replace a tire on a 5th wheel on the side of the road..

I was able to make the next exit while still having good tire pressure but I am sure if I had continued without knowing I had a tire in trouble the tire and possibly part of my trailer would have been destroyed.

But more important I was able to safely get off a very busy freeway and find some shade to install a spare tire in 100+ degree Arizona temperatures.

My point is โ€œIโ€ spend my money where โ€œIโ€ want. I donโ€™t call names if others disagree with what I do. Donโ€™t agree with me thatโ€™s fine. Rationally respond with your opinion on reasons for what you do thatโ€™s fine.

No idea what a TPMS costs if itโ€™s $500 or $200 I am not interested. I like my truck being free of added items. I know it would be a good idea to look at my Motorcycle when double towing but again thatโ€™s another thing to find a place for.

So yโ€™all add all your safety devices you want I have zero issue with anyone doing so.

Nothing snide or rude about what any of us are saying. But why have a million dollar โ€œumbrella policyโ€ and not spend $500 to make you and others safe! That policy will not save a life! A TPMS has the probability of saving a life or preventing an accident!

Couldnโ€™t of said it better this is not middle school , not snide remarks just a fact its a mentality I had and many do too . Truth does hurt at times .

You start to loss air in a tire that holds 110-125 psi , bad things happen . If I had TPMS , most likely I would of got a low pressure warning and would of been able to save a nearly new tire and a lot of time lost . Plus sitting on a busy road .

Not sure what the umbrella has to do with sitting beside a busy road in danger of semis etc with a flat tire that no amount of insurance will help other than possibly a TPMS . It took me once to change my mentality .

Some learn by reading , some learn by observing , and some learn by pi$$ing on a electric fence . I know there has been a few times what category I fell in . Some have to learn the same way .

The ONLY road hazard tire flat was on my 98 with Wildcat tires from LS. I have driven WAYYYY Over one million miles with lots of towing miles. Thatโ€™s the only road hazard I have ever had.

Well as always lucky you !! I had went longer then you with the same ridiculous mentality until last year not even a flat tire in 57 years owning and driving a vehicle . Lost a tire due to loss of air , not noticed until the tire started smoking and coming apart on my fifth wheel , if only I had the TPMS. I do now , and you most likely will too when one of those indestructible Goodyearโ€™s come apart and mess up that pretty fifth wheel of yours .

To the OP , TST 507 seems to be the most popular and the one I went with. Very nice system .

Oh!! , what did we do before TPMS , well thatโ€™s pretty easy as I well know not having it , suffered the consequences . More ridiculous mentality that I too had .

Like I said the ONLY road hazard truck or RV was on my 98, truck felt funny I pulled over and replaced the tire.

OK, I will be honest I have had a few screws or nails in my tires from Construction sites. Noticed low tire and simply aired it up and had it fixed.

If I have a tire issue that causes damage I will be sure to mention it. Just like if I drop my RV using my B&W that I don't do a pull test with. :B

There are two features I look for for a TPMS.

First is the lag time from a signal loss to notification. TST is one hour and Pressure Pro when I had their system 5 years ago was about 15 minutes.

Second is if you can read tire pressures after the system has set idle overnight. Some system will not transmit data until the sensor detects motion if it has been motionless for a period of time.

I want a system that will allow me to read pressures early in the morning before I move the trailer. I prefer to find out if there is a problem before I move the trailer.

I got my TPMS that's six cap sensor from RVproducts4you. You can find it on Amazon or their website, RVproducts4you.com. It's was easy to use. Took my less than fifteen minutes to put it on.
