Toilet Paper

I have a question about "RV" toilet paper. Is it really necessary to use RV approved toilet paper in my truck camper? Do you guys use it or do you just use the same toilet paper that you use at home? I'v never owned an RV before so I don't know if this is necessary. I can't imagine it is much different that the Scott 1000 that I use at home. What do you use?

I would never fill my black or fresh at the site. Most of the time I don't even know if the campground dump station is open or if there's a line. I wouldn't want to have to travel with all those tanks full. Refilling in the dump station is always possible, so long as there isn't anyone behind you...which is almost never.

For shorter trips I usually just dump near home, sometimes the next day. The local Elk's Lodge has a brand new, donation-only dump station that's open to the public.


I was responding to questions by folks that claimed they couldn't easily get water at a dump station where they camped.

Lack of RV experience. Simple as being a newb. And I'm sure I'm putting too much stock in the manual and not enough on the real world experience of others.

I certainly respect your asking, as I think you should. If only a couple of people used the same paper as at home, I too would be hesitant.

It will hurt peoples feelings on occasion, but I think it is fair to ask someone why they do something a certain way, or why they use a given story. If they don't know why, I question the validity of their input. It does not necessarily mean it is incorrect, but all to often we do things based simply off of peoples beliefs. In the case of the TP, the preference is for the paper to dissolve and not stick to the tank sensors or hang up in the dump valves. A solid piece of paper does not flow as easily through the plumbing.

I use a Macerator when I dump, and so far have had no problems with any TP. My Toilet is directly over the tank, and I can easily see inside my tank. With a mechanics mirror and flashlight, through the toilet, I can see my dump valve.

Put this on the bathroom faucet and add a short hose to fill tank via toilet
Or just flush continuous till full
Also handy at bucket fill spigots

If I am coming home from a weekend, my fresh tank is almost empty while the gray tank is full and black is less than half. They do have an outside wash down hose on a 30s timer, but it is not long enough to reach inside. I can only speak for the one dumpstation I've been to (only used the camper once so far) and it had a regular water hose but it was cut down to maybe 3' in length. I wondered how people were filling as well when I saw that.

My experience has always been if you FILL YOUR TANK TO THE TOP WITH WATER,dump,then repeat,even baby wipes dump-much less premium TP and never a problem with sensors.
