My 1-ton dually 4WD diesel pickup needs to be towed to the dealership...

The tow truck driver showed up with a regular (not flat bed) two truck and plans on towing it with the front hooked up...

I ALWAYS THOUGHT A TRUCK THAT SIZE WITH 4WD NEEDS A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK...is that true? and also with the way he is proposing it can it be towed the way he is proposing to tow it?

Threw my tensioner and serpentine belt last spring on the way home. Had the truck flat bedded to my house. I would not want it towed to far with the rear wheels down without the drive shaft being disconnected.

Only being towed about 5 miles to dealership...

Pull the rear drive shaft, lift the front and tow it as far as you want.

The NV-271 Transfer case may be towed rear down or 4-down if the T-case is placed in Neutral. You can tow the truck front-down (from the rear) with the T-case in 2WD and the truck in park, however there are distance limitations.

Most reputable towing companies use Industry standard towing guides which list the available towing methods for every make and model out there.

I saw a Ford Dually 6.0l getting pulled with a tow strap up the main road by a newer Ford Dually this week... So anything is possible.. (and no this wasn't a 6.0 bashing moment) 😉

I can't believe there's a tow truck driver in North America that will stand by while you post questions on an internet forum!

If it's going to the dealership, presumably for service, why not call their service department and ask the folks that'll be working on it???
