TT < 28’ - inside bike storage via large cargo door

Hello -

Do you have any suggestions for travel trailers with inside bike storage via a large outside access/cargo door, like shown in photos below? Which brands with that option have the best quality?

I was originally looking for a 24-28’ toy hauler with walk around queen bed, something like the Stealth 2313 shown immediately below. It is 28’ including hitch with 6,500 lb dry weight and 1,075 lb hitch weight. The primary reason for going to a toy hauler was to carry two adult mountain bikes and to have flexibility for more outdoor gear in the future.

However, in another thread some members were suggesting a travel trailer since my primary cargo will be two mountain bikes. With a travel trailer, I could get a lower trailer and hitch weight and more bang for the buck.

WoodGlue suggested looking at the Lance 2185, which has an oversized outside access door to a bunk area where you could store bikes. I am looking at that further.

I also come across this Heartland North Trail FX 23

Some Jaycos Jay Flights had this on bunk house floorplans with a ”Maxistor” outside access door. I think the 28BHS was one. Does anyone know if this the Maxistor or comparable are still available on Jayco's?

I also came across the KZ Spree 240BHS

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Also, for anyone who has any of the trailers above, can you please tell me if two adult mountain bikes would fit without disassembly?

Thank you.

Thank you. Do two adult bikes fit through the door without disassembly? Also, how does the rear slide work out?

The rear slide just comes in over the couch and table (both must be folded flat). We've actually had issues with our slide, but apparently that's not indicative of Jayco as it's not a common issue or they wouldn't be making the model still. The bike door is wide enough to put two bikes in, and the bottom bunk straps up. We've just used the space for storage and have never hauled bikes as I would think they would move around and fall over personally unless you have some kind of bike rack or stand to hold them upright.

Coincidentally we just looked at the North Trail FX23 this past weekend, and you wouldn't be able to get two bikes in there. The door is really narrow, I'm not sure how one would get a bike through to begin with. The handlebars would have to go through almost sideways. I was disappointed, I expected better from North Trail. What I did like though was a sliding door that you could close off and keep that area separate from the rest of the trailer, that was a neat idea. Wish we had that on our X213.

Can you access your bathroom/refrigerator with the slide in?
You can access the frig but the bathroom I have to run the slide out a couple feet. The cargo plus door is 4' x 4' I think, the trailer is 900 miles away so I can't measure. Salem and Wildwood are the same trailer.

Just came across this Forest River Evo 2550. It looks like the same floorplan and also has the Storage Plus door option. Does anyone know the difference in the Wildwood vs. Evo line?

Now just saw the Salem line has the same floorplan?

Thank you for the suggestion. 310TB at 35' is longer that I wanted, and not sure about the rear slide on the 230RS which means no walk around on bed. However, I really like the idea of the smaller side ramps and storage area. I am hoping they have these at the California RV show in October.

No large cargo door but have four bunks. The bikes come into the bunkroom where they are wrapped in old quilts to travel and are propped up by Rubbermaid boxes.

Thank you, I'll check it out. Is the door large enough to put the bike in without removing wheels?
