UPDATE: On my RV building plans

Well, you spoke..... and I listened.

Thank you to all those that provided feedback to me on my RV building plans. Your ideas and suggestions have been very helpful. Some of the things pointed out to me were;

- My trailer was too high. (This was a rendering error and I corrected it) The actual trailer should come in at no more than 11' now.

- I didn't have enough storage. Now I added a storage cabinet over the desk and an access door to storage below the trailer in the back.

- Someone even pointed out that my tongue was not in the right spot and I corrected that.

If you haven't seen my plans to build an RV or you want to see the rendering revisions I made please go to: MY RV PLANS If you have any more suggestions, ideas or feedback I would greatly appreciate it.

Fondly, -Darla

Hmm, yes. Speaking of paying attention, are you still planning on putting a 15Kbtu A/C unit on that little thing?

No, I am now convinced that a 15k would be too much. And I'd like to take advantage of possibly bringing a smaller generator along. The reason I thought big in the first place is that in my 31' trailer a 15k BTU didn't really do much on some California days. What also doesn't make sense is that I have a 5k BTU window mount a/c in my den at home which is about the same square footage as my 31' was and that thing freezes me out of the room. Isn't a BTU a BTU? Are RV units overstating their cooling capacity? Thanks -Darla

Order please...order... who called this meeting anyways?

Darla - Reduced words were after I typed a page outlining ideas and thoughts we have had for a similar concept 4 season unit etc. time I got around to posting them the thread had gone into full manure chucking mode so I filed them.

Seems there is more interest in an argument than a civil exchange of ideas.

It is going to be tough to find a builder that will tolerate Darla. I dont think she will find one.

This project will come to a screeching halt as soon as the OP approaches a trailer manufacturer and asks for an inward opening door. They not only do not have that on the shelf, they are not going to custom build it because it is a certifiably bad idea. They would not want to have to deal with an unhappy customer later on when that customer has water coming in and rotting out the floor in short order.

"Darla" has proven with every single reply to both threads that all she really wants is to talk about "how she wants to build it"......not "what do you think of these ideas".

A better title for the threads would be, "look at what my plans are, I've decided on how to do this, so don't try to talk me out of it"

Okay, when I need a Thread Title Writer the job is definitely yours! Really, is that the best contribution you could make? ... "screeching halt on the inward door?" Here's what you don't know; there are companies out there that build high tech command and operations centers out of cargo trailers employing the latest in specialized equipment, communications, video and sustainability technologies. Check it out... http://www.missourigreatdane.com/mobilecommandtrailers.htm (You don't think the police bring a 1998 Bounder 36s to riot do you?) So if a builder can't engineer reversing the entry door inward then I might wanna keep looking for another builder. By the way an inward opening door has lots of advantages as I point out. It's not a new concept... I did not invent it. Tiny home trailers have them and you'll even find one on the front door of your stick home. Go see if water is coming in? Thanks for your feedback and hang in there! Regards, Darla

OOOOOOOOh snap! Now here is an area where I have irrefutable expertise! I happen to own a 1998 Bounder 36s. (What an ODD coincidence huh?) I also have some riot control training. The police wouldn't bring any mobile command center to the riot, they would bring APCs, non-lethal munitions, riot shields and a boat load of zip ties. The Mobile command centers stay well away from the riot.

If they did for some reason, what could they do with a 15'x8' ghetto-rigged ex lawnmower carrier? Well, in the case of yours I guess they could throw little poop bags at the crowd :B :B :B. Unfortunately they would need a squad of large guys to hold the inward swinging door and keep the mob out. There is plenty of room in the shower to detain a couple of the rabble rousers however!

I'm sure you had a very successful career in the business field. Your nasty rotten core shows through time and time again. You take delight in shutting down others and when you lack a good rebuttal, you wait till later to get a nice little zinger in. Your true colors do show a powerhouse in a backstabbing corporate environment but I highly doubt you have succeeded anywhere else in the giant arena that is life; especially interpersonal relations of any meaning. That could be the reason why you are trying to build a little nutt-box for one and only ever one.

Since in your reply to WETSNAIL, you have decreed (with all the power invested in you by your massive EGO) that grousing and sniping is perfectly fine here (regardless of actual forum rules) and no moderators have contradicted that to point, I am going to really start enjoying myself.

I am confident that my 1998 Bounder 36s will always take me to more fun, good times, happiness, friends and family than your 14'x8' traveling tomb of eternal desolate solitude. 😉

Amen to all that. At least it's good to know you're paying attention. :C -Darla

For a guy that doesn't want to contribute you seem to keep coming back? Maybe that 98 Bounder has a way of inspiring you. :C

You have a point. I might as well keep this going. I just typed that while waiting on my food at Red Robin last night. I was rather exhausted from an 80 hour work week.

The 'ole bounder does inspire me. Well, not really the bounder but the Double Door fridge with ice maker and the oven next to it which is used regularly to make Potatoes, home-style mac and cheese, buffalo chicken dip, biscuits, angel food cake etc. The gas cooktop is also inspiring to create all sorts of culinary delights when the outward swinging front door is keeping out the sideways rain from the usual summer thunderstorms down here. Also inspiring is the massive amount of storage space I have to pull out the folding poker surface, tequila, triple sec, limes and orange juice to entertain the extended family when it is STILL raining out. Not having to explain a hamper of poop filled bags is inspiring as well.

But wait Darla....don't go away yet....why is it you tried to deftly change the subject about doors....by showing us a silly little tiny house on wheels.....why don't you instead stand up like the man you are and defend your own link to great dane trailers....that both I and AirForce Angler pointed out was in error ?

What....you think changing the subject will make everybody overlook your major mistake there ????

This is, I must admit somewhat fun.

She knows when she has lost but will never claim defeat! It is pretty fun at this point. I am completely beside myself that the moderators have not stepped in. It's just so surreal. I had a thread locked down in less than one day where I had posted some pictures of a very odd and interesting RV I saw at Wal-Mart yet this battle-royal is let to run :h

I will readily admit I am sticking around this thread, because it has become one of the most entertaining threads for a long, long time. I can't say that I have seen a discussion that has been as off beat and ridiculous as this....maybe ever. I think "Darla" wins the "troll thread of the year" award. :B

So Darla....just exactly WHEN is this thing gonna be rolling down the road ??? If this project is this simple....and you have a hundred grand to drop on it, I'm thinking it ought to be ready to roll by about June 1, 2014. The Chevy store I'm sure has a truck in stock to sell you....whatcha waitin' for..... GIT 'ER DONE :B

I'll bring the 6-pack and we can watch it go down together.

Stick around. Don't spend your whole life just sitting on the sidelines. The action is always on the field. If all goes as planned (and sometimes it does) I will cut the builder a check at the end of the summer. That should give me enough time to get it built and get it out west by November. Oh, I never said building this would be "simple"....actually it's very complex. Now drink your milk and go to bed hon. Regards, -Darla

Ok, yes I did... I checked out your link there. And guess what ? The very first trailer I look at there as a mobile command center has....you guessed it....and outward opening door. Gee.... I wonder why ?

Sticks and bricks do have inward opening doors. And guess what...here in the part of the country I live in, where the rain is wind driven very often, most houses have a "storm door" on the outside of the main door. Storm doors open outward. Gee... I wonder why....hmmmm, maybe so the rainwater washes to the outside of the structure ? Maybe that's why they are called "storm" door.
Could be.....
Every house I have lived in the 62 years of my life has had a storm door on the outside of the front door.

GMW...
Really? Every house you've lived in had a storm door? Do you live in the Amazon rain forest or something? What about all the houses that don't have "storm doors", but just plain ole front doors that open inward? Are you telling me all those people weren't smart enough to get a storm door to keep the rain out? Maybe they just bought a good front door in the first place that doesn't let in tidal waves in as you suggest inward doors do. Are you also telling me there is no way to keep rain out unless the door opens outward? Again, I admit I am not the innovator on this concept. Take a peak at mobile dwellings. I'm not seeing a whole lot of storm doors are you? Stay dry hon. -Darla

SO $45,000.00..... FOR A 15 ft trailer,with no storage,and no stove....correct?????

You are a Wise Person, who knows what they want....

Welcome to the jungle BFAST...

$45k if all goes as planned. Add another $40-$45k for a new truck and another $10k for some goodies like a computer, high end camera, a folding bike, gps locator, etc. and it's a $100k project.

And all with no stove! Thanks for the comment.
