Used Roo 23RS vs. New X-Lite 195BH

Hi all! I have been watching and researching travel trailers for the past year in preparation for our upcoming purchase and need a little help.

BACKGROUND - Our family consists of 3 (husband, wife, 10 year old daugther) and 1 70 pound dog. We want to be prepared for 4 as our daughter will often bring a friend or cousin. We are coming from a small pop up, which we love, but are ready for more. We are rarely inside the camper as we have only camped in the woods. However, we plan to camp at the beach with A/C. My tow vehicle is an 02 Avalache with tow package and 4:10 rear.

Last year after the RV show we believed we wanted a 26' bunkhouse. However after giving it more thought over the winter we decided pulling and storing an extra 8' or so for a dedicated queen upfront was not necessary for our needs. So after more research we narrowed down our options and were looking for something in the 20' range. This led us to the X-Lite 195BH, Wildwood and Salem are basically the same, and there are a few others with similar plans. We like the price point at $10,900 as well.

We have also found a few good deals on some rear slide expandables and looked at this yesterday, Rockwood Roo 23RS. We really like this trailer and the price. We did notice that the layout is what is listed for 2006.

OK, to my question. Which would be a better purchase? We would appreciate any thoughts or feedback to aid in our decision making process.

195BH
Pros - new, smaller and lighter
Cons - cheaper unit, more expensive, finance some, limited inside seating

23RS
Pros - better built, more room, better appliances, no financing
Cons - older, previous leak, heavier

The Roo has a much better layout, but I would be very Leary of buying a unit with water damage as you really can't tell how bad the damage is. My suggestion would be to keep looking and try to find a used trailer that is 2 to 3 years old. Don't let the urge for a new trailer make you rush the process.

Also, if the specs of your tow vehicle allow it, a trailer with a slide out will really help make a smaller trailer more roomy. Have you looked at other hybrids? If you don't mind dealing with bunk end canvas, a hybrid can provide plenty of sleeping space and not feel as small as a smaller trailer.

Or, maybe you want to wait a year, save some more cash and be in a better position to buy a new or newer unit that you really like.
