weight advice

we have a 2015 Ram 3500 tradesman addition dually 4x4 crew cab long bed. Cummins, Aisin trans. Torqlift steel tie down system.

GVWR is 14,000 lbs.
following info from Ram Body builders guide:
empty weight 8319 lbs.
payload 5680
max camper 4581

Only thing I have added is Big Wig sway bar.
weight inside the truck is just the Wife and I.

Currently we have a wolf creek 840.
we tow a 7x14 box trailer with a motorcycle in it. Toung weight is? (2 people can pick it up)

anyway, we are looking at a Artic Fox 996.
Truck camper mag has some figures.
Dry weight 3934 with mandatory option pack (plus we will add AC 200w solar and our brand new memory foam will replace stock mattresses)

Wet weight *Arctic Fox 996: dry weight, 3,934 pounds + 53 gallons fresh, 442 pounds + 6 gallon full hot water heater, 50 pounds + 2x 30-pound full propane tanks, 54 pounds + 2 batteries, 130 pounds + stuff, 500 pounds = 5,110 pounds

Currently my truck still sits 1" higher in back than front with Wolf creek and trailer hooked up.

Will my truck still be OK without modifications and teh 996? On paper its only 1500 lbs more than WC

actual it adds up to 13980. 20 lbs under 14,000 lbs GVWR:).

1090 lbs below rear GAWR.
680 lbs below front GAWR.

Interesting your front axle weight. That 990 must be putting some weight on the front axle, while my 1150 unloads the front axle a little bit.

Rear was around 1000 lbs under max. Front was also under max. But truck, camper and trailer tong weight loaded for 10 days camping, 1/3 tank of water, fuel tank full, wife and I in truck. About 40 lbs under 14k lbs 🙂
So I guess I can tell the weight police "I am under".

I will post true numbers tomorrow when I get to destination. Also I don't know any numbers of truck unloaded

We will be going over a scale Thursday night, but will be in "as travel" mode without all that fresh water. Also my truck is 14K GVWR which give me a GVWR of 6000 front and 9750 rear.

Always like the 990s AF. So what are your axle weights? Just curious if your over 9,250 on your rear axle or not. AF get heavy on the rear axle very quickly. Post when you can.

once we started really using the WC 840 on longer trips it could get a little crowded for even 2 adults.
When we first got the Wolf Creek it was all my 3500 SRW truck needed to carry, but now I have a dually which gave me a whole new range of campers to carry.
As we used it we compared our issues with the design of other campers. We started to like the design of the arctic fox 990/996 floor plan. The slide made the biggest difference to us in room.

we also have a 2011 5th wheel that sits on a private campground my brother and I own. We thought about upgrading that camper but decided its good enough for what it does.
Plus this year we realized we spent almost 4 weeks in the Wolf creek and only a couple weekends in the 5th wheel. So we decided to upgrade our truck camper or as we call it "our escape pod".
We had the money, Truck Camper Warehouse had the 2016 left over 990, we went and looked at it and bought it.


But the Wolf Creek is a great unit. I had no problems with mine related to manufacture (door lock went bad and kitchen sink faucet broke)I would highly recommend one to anybody looking.

There are no 996's around (only 1 dealer on our side of country)
we really liked the 2016 990 we found. the 2017's cost more. I was quoted around 6 months time to order the 996.
and we are happy.

yes those figures I posted from truck camper mag included the fox value pack.
