Call me skeptic, but I don' think the Workhorse truck had a chance from the get-go. Poor specs, a body that's based on an already obsolete Chevy, and topped off with the worst Fischer-Price interior I've ever seen.
Well, I don’t know much about the workhorse truck but I don’t think fuel price is a major contributor to buying an EV...or at least not the only reason. Trucks are a little different than cars but certainly performance, convenience and lower maintenance come into play for many.
I’m also not too sure oil prices will stay low forever. At the levels they are now the North American petroleum industry would be idled within a year and prices would rise accordingly. And at this point, at least in an EV car, a dollar a gallon would be still twice as expensive as an EV for us, and I don’t think too many places are selling gas for a buck a gallon, or at least not commonly.
But lite trucks are a little different. Although many truck owners use their half tons as grocery getters some are used in situations where an EV might not be the right choice...yet.
Anyway, it seems manufacturers are pushing their EV truck offerings forward a year or two. My guess is Rivian will be first EV truck to the market with Tesla soon after. Probably Ford next, maybe Lordstown next and someday GM.
