Change oil on schedule, with the correct type and weight and use a rated oil filter, I use EcoGuard brand. Don't skimp on the fuel filter, I use Mopar filter, and fuel up from high volume diesel stations. Last thing you want is a bad tank of fuel to fowl up the injectors($$$$$). Finally with a diesel you will find they use an exhaust fluid treatment called DEF, cleaver enough the long name is Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Again buy it high volume stations as it has a shelf life. You can get it at large box stores like Wally World and some auto parts stores, but remember it has a shelf life. With my truck I can get 7 to 10,000 miles from a 8 gallon tank. Finally three letters, GDE, Tune, check it out.Re: anyone towing with a Grand Cherokee Diesel? danimal53 wrote: avoidcrowds wrote: I towed with a 2014 Jeep GC diesel for 3 years. Had a TrailManor 2417, which was 3,500 lbs, and the height of a popup. Towed like it wasn't back there. Last spring, we got a full-size trailer, which weighs 5,600 lbs loaded for a week. I knew the trailer was back there. Going up grades over 6% (west side of the Johnson/Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 in Colorado) bogged me down considerably. And, even with WDH with sway control, I never felt stable if there was more than a 10mph wind. Got rid of the GC, and replaced with an F-150. Works/tows so much better! But, others are very happy towing their bigger trailers with the GC. I didn't like the way it had to work so hard to go slowly up a steep hill, as we camp in the mountains most of the time. Also, be aware of your cargo capacity. With the 725 lbs of tongue wt/WDH weight, there was very little left for wife, me, and cargo. Could not take a third adult along without being over the rated capacity of the Jeep (1,060 lbs). Another advantage of the truck. thanks for the info! our TT is 3500 loaded, but it is full height. The GC diesel will certainly be an upgrade from our Liberty gasser. I'm quite surprised by that payload number, can't seem to get a consistent number on the internet. Even my smaller liberty is rated 1150. But it looks like it depends on trim level as well. I was looking at the Limited, which some sites list as high as 1270. Luckily I'm already very payload conscience with our current smaller TV. What kind of mileage were you getting? I don't want to get a bigger truck, as mentioned it will be a daily driver, and I'd like to still fit in my garage (older, door is kind of short) Thanks again for the input! While I can't quite speak to how your GC will do, I will speak to what my Ram 1500 gets in fuel mileage as it has the same motor, 3.0 liter diesel. Towing a 5600 lbs TT and I am getting ~14 on the flats and empty with just me I have seen 29+. Normally I figure 12 towing and 27 empty, your GC is smaller and less frontal area would think it would do better.Re: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Camped along the Mississippi last summer, greeted by the morning sun rise. Picture taken out the camper window while enjoying a hot mug of java. Better moments of camping.Re: Newbie - prepping for first tripshort answer yes. Long answer is hell yes. I have the same setup, Pro Series, just remember to unhook the sway bar before backing in to your spot. I have a smaller trailer and I can tell when I don't have it hooked up. Without it every truck that passes me sucks the trailer over, almost unnoticeable when the sway bar is attached. I have a 24' trailer, weighs 2,000 lbs less pulled by a Ram 1500, us your sway control.Re: SENSORSI have had similar problem, solved by letting the tanks dry out. Kind of nasty but once home I put a five gallon bucket under the dump value open them up, usually don't get to much out, leave it open a couple days and dry's out the tanks. Condensation is the issue I believe, may not be the best way but it works if you are suffering from condensation on the inside of the tanks.Re: Water Pump Cycling On\OffWon't have a chance to mess with the pump for a few days, let you all know what I find out. Thanks for the pointers.Re: Water Pump Cycling On\Off mtofell1 wrote: When my tank gets low the pump will start cycling and running constantly. It's very sensitive to being on a hill when the water is presumably falling away from the pump. I don't think anything is wrong. You just must keep enough water in the tank to satisfy the pump. That spot I was on was one of the flatter spots I have had so don't think that is it. The pump still cycled just longer periods between the cycling. I'll start here, not sure what I'm looking for but start the trace and see what I find.Water Pump Cycling On\OffLast trip out the water pump on my Jayco White Hawk was cycling on and off, number of cycles increased as the fresh water tank emptied out. Less water in the tank the more often it would cycle. Found no leaks, all faucets are/where fully off. Wondering if it may be due to the pump going bad or drain back going bad or perhaps the pump diaphragm could be bad. TT is on its 3rd season believe it has a Shurflo 4008? I was able to confirm the cycling increase's with tank level as we had to refill the tank during the week+ we where out. Thoughts or advice on what to check for?Re: Battery Charging MrWizard wrote: Are you sure the 20 amp fuse green wire circuit is not the Jack I would expect a black wire going to a 40 amp metal auto reset breaker mounted just under the trailer, near the the 'A' frame Got the battery back from O'Reilly's and it passed and fully charged. I actually have two fuse's one to the battery and I replaced it with a 30 amp fuse, so far so good. The wire leading to the jack has a separate 30 amp fuse, why I went with 30 to the battery. For now I will monitor fuse\battery and I'm still trying to get a response from the trailer sales I purchased the TT from but no response yet. Go Figure. Thanks for the help and pointers, think I got it.Re: Battery ChargingTook the battery into O'Rielly's, going to keep it overnight as it needs to charge before they can test it. We shall see.
