All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Forever WarrantyI'd be interested to hear replies on this as well. We purchased our new TT in February and also received the Forever Warranty at no cost. We don't mind paying the annual inspection fee (about $100) to keep it active. We'd want to have things inspected anyway, especially since this is our first RV.Re: Newbie looking for manufacturer recommendationsWe are newbies too and bought our first TT in February. We went with a Starcraft and have been very happy with it so far. Both Starcraft and Jayco models come with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty, as opposed to only 1 that most brands offer. That might be something worth considering. It meant a lot to us, especially since we are new to all of this!Re: Major Brent Spence bridge work at Ohio/Kentucky borderThank you for this info. We were planning to come home through Cincinnati in a couple of weeks. I don't know if we will change our route or not, but at least we will know to expect delays.Elizabethtown, KY to Newburgh, NY and BackHi all! I posted a similar thread recently and am just looking for some more feedback on our upcoming trip. Our itinerary has changed a bit; we are no longer stopping in Gettysburg on our way home due to time constraints and not wanting to rush on the rest of our trip. We are allowing 3 days of traveling each direction. Here's what we are thinking we will do: On our way to NY, we plan to go east through Kentucky on I-64, then I-79 to I-68, and then Either PA 220 to I-99/I-80/81/84 -OR- take I-68 to I-70/I-81/I-78/287/I-87. I'm still need to do a little research on that route and make sure there's nothing difficult we want to avoid. (I got lots of feedback from my previous thread asking about grades so I need to go back and read that again, as well as the mountain directory.) We want to see different scenery each direction so will be heading home from Newburgh, NY, across Pennsylvania on I-84 & I-80. We'll stay the night around the PA/OH state line then head out on I-76/I-71 to Columbus and then on to Cincinnati & Louisville. We're planning to stay a night near Louisville as well. My question is, are there any places along those routes that you would recommend for taking short breaks to walk around and stretch our legs? I know there are rest areas, and those will be our go-tos if we don't find anything else of interest that we know will be easy to get in and out of with the TT. I thought if there were some neat local sights that you all knew about, that would be great. Maybe craft/farmer's markets or quirky museums or something like that...just a fun place to stop and experience the local area for a little bit without taking us too far off the interstate. We want to make the journey to and from our destination enjoyable too! Thanks in advance! You all have been really helpful already!Re: Tolls while traveling across the US travelnutz wrote: An outlandish toll is for the new not very long at all bridge and the old bridge too on I-65 over the Ohio River at Louisville KY and they scan your license plate and you'll get a bill in the mail a month or two later. A vehicle pulling an RV is tolled the same as a Semi/trailer and yes, I sure did complain to them with a phone call to KY State Highway complaint office. These are a ripoff and we'll avoid them and Louisville or Cincinnati in the future and take another road south/north over the Ohio River! We were planning on taking that route in a couple of weeks. If you don't mind me asking, how much are we talking about? We don't have toll roads where we live, and we're new to RVing, so it's not something I'm familiar with to even have an idea of what to expect. We might want to find another route if possible, maybe it's not possible if going through Louisville & Cincinnati... EDITED: Never mind...I just double-checked our route, and we don't cross the river. We be taking I-65 to I-71.Re: Jayco and travel trailer qualityMy husband and I bought our first TT a few months ago. We looked at a Jayco but ended up with a Starcraft that was almost identical, including the 2-year warranty. From what we could tell and from what we read, their construction is very similar. (I believe they are both owned by Thor.) We liked them both but the particular Starcraft we were looking at had a few more options (that I'm sure were available on the Jayco, just not on the one in stock) and the Starcraft dealer was closer to our home, so Starcraft won out for us. I know that you didn't list Starcraft, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case you hadn't considered them. The prices of the two we were comparing were about the same. I'm glad to read that everyone seems to be happy with their Jaycos since I feel like we got such a similar product. I could be wrong...again, I'm new! :) We have used ours four times so far and are thrilled with our purchase. We should've switched from a tent to an RV years ago!Re: New York to Tennessee cbshoestring wrote: hsk1977 wrote: I really appreciate this description, as it's making me wonder if we need to change our route from Elizabetown, KY, to Plattekill,NY, next month. It will be our first long trip, and our plans were to go I-64 to I-79 to I-68 for part of the trip. Maybe we don't have other options that make sense...I'll have to look. We are new RVers, and this is our first long trip, so this is all unknown to me! Good ol' E-town. Spend a bit of time north of there....protecting the gold. You could take 65N to 265, skirt around Lou-i-vull, pick up I-71N. Take that thru Cincy and Columbus to I-76E thru Akron which will become I-80 near Youngstown. I-80 thru Pennsylvania to I-81N then I-84E in to NEW YORK. My two cents...:B I looked at that route. I wasn't sure how much of a pain it would be to go through larger cities as far as traffic goes. I guess we've gotta pick the lesser of two evils! LOL Thanks!Re: New York to Tennessee cbshoestring wrote: I-68...you better like hills. Lost of long, long, long pulls. Many have towns at the bottom of the hill (lower speed limit and "S" turns) making RUNNING FOR THE HILL nearly impossible. I-79... more hills and built in a way that winds through the mountains. Read as twisty road. Rt 19... DO NOT SPEED in Summersville. They are famous for speeding tickets. They especially like trucks and out-of-towner's using rt-19 as a short cut from I-79 to I-77. NOW you get to PAY A TOLL to ride on a portion of I-77 that has been claimed by the WV T/P. What did you get for your effort. More traffic on a hillier, twisted roadway, that you had to pay to drive on??????? SIGHTS....none, these roads twist thru the mountians with nothing to look at or stop for...swing thru a town...back out in to nothing-ness. PLUS....I am not a geographical guy, but I am pretty sure that I-81 runs along a valley (a bit up and down) whereas 68 will have you cross over a mountain, only to cross back on 79. I would stay on I-81 unless you like driving and putting wear and tear on your drivetrain for no reason. I really appreciate this description, as it's making me wonder if we need to change our route from Elizabetown, KY, to Plattekill,NY, next month. They have an app that lets you know which of their stations have the pumps for RV's and which don't. Good to know! I'll be sure to download the apps before we go on our trip.Re: Plattekill, NY to Gettysburg, PA to Elizabethtown, KY trailertraveler wrote: hsk1977 wrote: It looks like we might have fewer grades to contend with if we traveled from Elizabethtown, KY, north to Louisville and go through Cincinatti & Columbus before going east through PA on our way there. Any thoughts about that route? How difficult is it to get through those cities? I guess we will weigh that with the grades. Also, it would be an opportunity for us to see different countryside on each leg of our trip. From Elizabethtown we take the Martha Lane Collins Bluegrass Parkway to Lexington and then I-64 to I-79 to I-68 to I-70 to I-81. I think there are more ups and downs on this route, but I-64 is usually better road surface than I-70 and seems to have far less traffic. It also avoids the tolls on the I-70/76 section that is the PA turnpike. That is really helpful to know! I will make a note of it. Thanks!
