Has been working like a charm! No worries about people stealing the four panels secured on the roof. Longest we went without charging was 2 1/2 weeks. Hooked up at a KOA for one night then went another week and a half. Figure $700-$800 for everything. Yes I Know it isn’t the portable kits, but it works well and I forget about it. Also charges when we are driving!Re: Portable ice maker for RV.If you have a fridge with a freezer in your rv, than the old style ice cube trays work. Takes up some freezer space but four trays of ice works well for the three of us. Fits straight into the freezer like a glove! Used to have a $150+ ice maker but got rid of it. Took up a lot of space and was always a pain to operate.Re: Towing with 4RunnerWe have a 2004 4Runner, which is 15 years older, that has the same 4.0 L V6. We installed the Hidden Hitch several years ago, which is now the Draw Tite hitch. We were able to use a wdh since it is a frame mount. Increased our towing and tongue weight from 6000/600 lbs to 7300/730 lbs. We hooked up our 25', 6000 lb tt and towed a couple hundred miles on flat desert land. Once we got home we started looking for a Tundra since the trailer was too much. 4Runners just do not have enough weight and wheel base length to haul anything much over 4000-5000 lbs. We pulled our previous 2000-3000 lb pop-up several thousand miles and it did a wonderful job, even in the mountains. We now use our 2010 Tundra to pull our tt and it does a wonderful job!2019 Forest River No Boundaries (NOBO) 19.7 BunkhouseFriends of ours are looking into purchasing one of these. They will be towing it with a 2008 Ford Expedition. It looks nice but I have a few concerns especially with a single axle and the size of the tt. Any input would be helpful. Also, some alternatives. Thanks! https://youtu.be/hzkrzC0GvCoRe: Replacement JackKnife sleeperCheckout IKEA. We found a futon without arms that fit our son nicely. In a few years it might be a little short though. Another option is a cot. Folds away nicely during the day.Re: Is anyone towing with an older pickup truck.I like your setup! I say go for it!!! I know of a few coworkers that have upgraded their older trucks and use them to tow. Just make sure your truck is in good mechanical shape. But, Breakdowns are all part of the adventure! They will happen. Also, make sure you have a good set of brakes installed. It is all about being able to slow coming down the hills out West here. Use your lower gears on your truck to keep you slow. Uphill, well if your engine is not the huge so-called powerhouses of today it just takes a little longer to get to the top. No big deal!Re: My 6-cyl 4runner can!On my V6 2004 4Runner, I removed the factory hitch receiver mounted to the bumper. I replaced it with a "Hidden Hitch" received mounted to the frame. This increased the hitch weight to 600 lbs or so and increased the towing capabilities to 6300 lbs. I could also now use a weight distribution hitch to take the strain off of the overloaded rear axle.Re: New compact 5000 BTU air conditioner coming next springBought a small a/c window unit from Home Depot a few years ago. Installed it in the bottom back half of our pop-up we had then. Cut a hole and used garage door opener brackets to secure it. Did a wonderful job for around $100. Probably was the cheap Chinese junk, but it never broke!Re: champion 100263 3400 watt inverter/generator questionBeen using the Champion 3100 inverter generator for 3 years now. Average between 60-80 hours per year. Change oil every 50 hours. Have had absolutely no problems and starts on the first or second pull everytime. No complaints about noise from anyone. It has handled 100+ heat in the shade and also elevations up to 9000 ft or so. Rides in the back of my truck. Not downing the red, blue, or any other colored generators. Just my experience with the yellow one.Re: Sequoia towing at max for over 5,000 miles - comfortablyGood God! This guy has put a lot of time, effort, and money making sure his combination of tow vehicle and travel trailer works! He showed the weights and everything else for everyone to see. I would be more than happy to ride along with him.
