A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Yep, I plan on celebrating a Bull Dog victory, or a mourning over a Alabama win. Alabama is a power house team and will be hard to beat. Georgia is going to need all the help they can get and then some divine help from the football gods.

Good morning everyone. We woke up to rain this morning. It is mild outside so I will wait to build a fire in the fireplace. Lizzie is having a good time playing in the Christmas tree while Dixie waits to see what falls to the floor that she can pick up and play with. Suzie is resting as usual just spending the morning thinking about whatever it is she thinks about.

Sue and I have an invitation to visit the old home place in Waynesboro. The new owner would like for us to come and tell him about the history of the house. I think we will do that some time after the first of the year.

Well it is the first day of December 2018. Another year gone by and we can rejoice in the fact we are still here in good health and looking forward to another Christmas. It's a great time of the year and a time of honoring a God that loves and takes care of His people.

I wish everyone a blessed day, be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Merry Christma to each of you

Good Morning

I really wish we were back at Jetty Park in the motorhome. This has been a really trying week at work so far. I am really glad it is almost the weekend.

The weather has been cold here in West Central Florida. It didn't make it out of the 50's on Wednesday and only got to around 63 yesterday. Supposed to warm up this weekend. I know that is not cold for most people but I like it warm!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good morning everyone. It's raining and 50* here in the Deep South. All is well with the family as we get closer to Santa's visit. This will be Lizzie's first Christmas, already she is excited about the Christmas tree and all the ornaments. She hasn't climbed up into the tree yet but I am sure that's coming.

Suzie and Dixie are getting ready for their walk with Sue. It's amazing how well Suzie is doing at her age. She is still able to run like the wind and plays with Dixie when they go outside in a game of catch me if you can.

I love this time of year. I am like a little kid as I still get excited about presents under the tree and stocking hanging from the mantle.

I watch the Hall Mark Christmas movies each night and think of times past when our children were small and looked for Santa Claus to come. Last night I watched Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Great story. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a ug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good morning everyone. It wasn't as cold this morning as it was yesterday. The temperature was 30* and it is suppose to warm up to the mid 50's today. We have been burning wood in the fireplace and have made a dent in the wood pile. We have enough to last us through the end of January before thinking about getting more.

Sue just got back from her morning walk with Suzie and Dixie. While they were gone Lizzie managed to get a green ball off the Christmas tree. I don't know what happened to the hook, but I will find another one so I can hang it back on the tree.

Saturday is the first of December and twenty-five days until Christmas. I am so grateful to be able to celebrate another Christmas season with good health and all the family doing well.

I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and pray you have a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Okay a little bit of explanation of calling people cousin. Here in the Deep South fifty to sixty years ago and even before that your close friends were called brother or sister. Others were called cousin. You didn't have to be blood related just friends.

Sometimes your closest neighbor might be a mile or so away, so you depended on each other for help or advise. Directions to someone's house was something like this, Go two miles down this dirt road and turn left at the mail boxes, then go another mile and turn right at the creek. His house will be down that road and when you cross the creek you will be there. You've heard the saying "I'll be there if the creek don't ride'" There was a reason for saying that.

Good morning everyone. It was 21* here this morning when we got up. I think the weather person said it was going to be in the upper 40's today. Sue said Sunday the high will be 70*.

The Christmas tree is up and Lizzie is playing with the ornaments, knocking some of them off the tree onto the floor, then offering them to Dixie to play with,

Sue and I along with Ava went to a concert last night featuring the choir from Greenville. They sang Christmas songs, some of which I didn't know, but the second half they sang some of the old classics which we enjoyed.

Next week we plan to go to Asheville to the Biltmore Estates to see the Christmas decorations. I sometime refer to it as my cousin's house. You know down South we claim relations to everybody, so we are all cousins.

Burch I liked the pictures you posted, looks like a nice place to visit, looking forward to seeing you in Sevierville next October. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

I am glad the lost dog found his family. We had a great time in Jetty Park but I am not happy to be back at work. I wish I was still on the beach.

I am trying to complete our plans for the Sevierville trip next October. My neighbor has a vacation house in Franklin, NC and I'd like to see him while I am in the area. I would like to stay somewhere between Franklin, NC and Cherokee, NC. I have found a few places that were right on the water where I could do some fly fishing. Unfortunately, the ones I looked at had a 2 dog limit. If anyone has some suggestions on a place to stay in that area, please let me know.

Good morning everyone. It is 29* outside this morning as we get up early so Sue and teach the school kids a bible lesson. Also we have a repair person coming over to look at our DSL as it is acting up since we have had power failures in the neighborhood.

The girls are okay, don't know they will not get their early morning walk as Sue has to leave early and I am not close to being able to go outside.

I hope all is well with everyone. Sandy and Dr. Doug I saw on FB where you are getting a new addition to the family. Congratulations for taking in another rescue, she will be so blessed to have you as her parents.

I think you are wasting a sign. . . dogs can't read. LOL They know by instinct and smell that yours is a safe place.

I'm curious about Max. Was he far from home? Had he been gone long? Very glad his home was found. He was probably excited.

Dale

Max was staying at the owner's grandparents which is about two miles away as the crow flies. He had been missing three days and four nights when she showed up at our house. He was exhausted and slept most of the afternoon and all night. I have never seen a dog so tired and willing to sleep so long in a strange place.

When his owner showed up Sunday morning I am not sure if he really wanted to leave. He was glad to see her but was hesitant in going out the door. Once he saw her car he was ready to jump in and go home. She had pictures of him on her cell phone so I know they belonged to each other
