is any one planning on going up in 2021? assuming the borders are open of course. just wondering what it will be like since, i guess, that most of the businesses this year had no business. i wonder if the smaller, mom and pop type, businesses will be there.
at this point in time, as i type this, we do not plan on going up.
but there is always hope.

Orion, Thanks for the info; yes, I'll PM you if I need further information; just need to read about it first; yes, Canada's form of government is so interesting.

SideHill, thanks for your information and funny too!!

Bear in mind, this is the equivalent of a state election. We just don't have those all at one time.

Still a chance for a fall federal election. My preference is to not have one.

No, but his half ton Chevy gets 30.8 mpg according to him, so take anything with a grain of salt or 2!

Yes, our system is a bit different to yours. The other thing I found interesting is that once the Lieutenant Governor (Leftenant!) agrees to the election, the Premier ( of BC) is no longer the Premier and has to be just called the Leader of the XXX party. He is still in charge though. The LG is the Queen's representative in BC. The Governor General is in Ottawa and is the rep for all of Canada. PM me if you want to know more, in case the Powers that be think it's too political.

The election is only in BC.
Itโ€™s an early election call, by about 1 year.
Once the election is over who ever wins has the keys to the office... if it is a new guy... old guy is kicking sand the next day...
Mind you there is a bit of legal stuff that happens.,,, but office is taken over immediately.

This is the way Leif wanted it.... ( grin)

Orion, very interesting! I've always been a little curious about Canadian politics. Is this just a provincial early election or an early national election? Does the winner take office immediatlely after the election or does the current office holder complete his or her term?

I'd hate to guess when that border will open. Something rather alarming has just happened here in BC. We are due to have an election next October as we are on a four year cycle. However, the government, because it is able to, has called for an early election a year earlier, this October. The reason given? The pandemic could be WORSE next year, so we'll do it now!
This is NOT a political post! ๐Ÿ™‚

I'll bet it was a really long drive to Alaska going east from Niagara Falls. You might want to stop and ask directions before you get to Nova Scotia.

thank for pointing out my typo.

Would suggest folks planning a trip to Alaska take it as soon as possible as Alaska is changing (like everywhere) and not always for the better:
- A year might not make much difference, but the more physically fit / less impacted by age one is, the more Alaska can be enjoyed.
- Right, Wrong Or Otherwise, many of the "not-pure-tourist-trap" stuff is going by the wayside: The AMHS ain't what it was as little as 5 years ago; the villages accessible by scheduled air transport are shrinking; certain national parks/preserves are reducing means and methods of access..etc, etc. and the list goes on
- RWOO, although it may be a 2020 phenomenon, many of the remaining "tourist" services are seeing significant price increases: fishing charters than can only put 4 people on a boat charge more, flight services that can carry full loads but bear the cost of COVID mitigation programs charge more, etc.
....and many places are just closed and unlikely to make it.

I would think that most of those who had planned for this year simply rolled the trip over to next year. We went, supposedly our last trip to AK, in 2018.

The itch to go again for the 'last trip' is growing. It won't be next year. Figure the North will have a busy year 2021. Maybe 2022. There is a magnet up there that keeps pulling us back.

If Columbus would have stopped and asked directions, he never would have discovered America.

Just so you know, Columbus didnโ€™t discover America...about 500 years before him Leif Eriksson set up shop in what is now Canada, which is part of America.
And about 15,000 years before Leif and his troop showed up the asians walked over from Siberia to North America.
Now thatโ€™s what my history teacher told us back in the early 70โ€™s... but... things may have changed since then, who knows...
