best route from southern Idaho to Yosemite

Yosemite is on our list of possibilities for late this camping season. Haven't ever been there, and it's tough to judge from maps what the best route would be, pulling a 27' TT, to get from Twin Falls, Idaho to Yosemite. We would probably want to stay at the Mariposa KOA. Suggestions wanted! 🙂 Thanks in advance, folks.

Thanks, all. Forgot to mention - electric hookups for us are essential.

Profdant, We've stayed several times in TM campground with our 28 foot 5er. They have a few spaces with 35' driveways. We've seen several of the larger Airstreams in there as well.

With a 27 footer, you do not want to stay in Tuolumne Meadows. But stay at Mono Vista in Lee Vining and "commute" to the high country up 120 -- that area of Yosemite is really great -- much cooler than the valley. Then, when you have had your fill of the high stuff, take 120 across to the west side. It is doable with a big rig -- just take it easy and use the turnouts when traffic builds behind you.

Stay on the eastern side like Fresno said and you could also stay outside the park on eastern side and just drive in. Be cooler in late summer also on eastern side.

If it was me coming from Idaho, I wouldn't be staying in Maraposa. You would have to drive all the way around to the west side of the Sierra's.I would catch 395 South in Reno, take it to 120 West (Tioga pass) and up to Tuolumne meadows campground. It's a steep drive over coming from the east but the Yosemite high country is simply stunning and well worth it. From your base camp there you could drive down to Yosemite valley in less then 90 minutes for a day trip. There are tons of hikes off of Tioga pass and many that start right near the campground. Tuolumne meadows is not quite as challenging to get as those in valley. Give it a look.

Cross the Sierras on I 80 then take highway 99 south to Merced and 140 to Mariposa and Yosemite.

Look for Happy Burger cafe on main drag....... Very good burgers or anything else, very large portions. Good prices
