Best route to Fort Wilderness

What is the best route to Fort Wilderness from IH10 in motorhome that is towing?

In my opinion, most definitely. You'll hit a lot of traffic and stop lights on 535. In addition, that will bring you up to Hotel Plaza Blvd and Downtown Disney which can also get busy, especially if it is near rush hour. Certainly doable, but not as easy as the 429 (Western Beltway), which will drop you right onto Western Way, which ends at Buena Vista Blvd, a short distance from World Drive. World Drive will bring you right towards Fort Wilderness (to the right after the Magic Kingdom Toll booths).

Besides, to get on 535 from the turnpike, you will need to get on 429 (Western Beltway) for a short distance anyway. May as well just stay on it.

The name of the site on the App store for Apples is "Fort Wilderness Sites" It is free, so I may give it a try. We prefer loops 400 to 900 when we take our 5th wheel, which is most of the time. 100 to 300 are OK with the truck camper, with the narrow roads and restricted backing room on many of the sites. However you can't reserve a specific site or loop, as all loops are not open all the time. You can request a specific loop at check in and that does seem to help. They run the campground the same way as they do the different classes of hotels. All appears to be based upon historical data of crowds at the Parks.

The full concrete sites are the ones called the Premium sites. They are nice.

Here are the sites (by Loop Numbers):

100 - 200 Preferred - no pets
300 - Preferred - Pets allowed
400 - 900 Premium - Pets allowed
1000 - 1400 Premium - no Pets
1500 - Partial Hook-up - Tent and Popups
1600 - 1900 Full Hook-up Pets allowed
2000 - Partial Hook-up - Tents and Pop Ups

I would suggest the full concrete sites as they don't have the crushed shell and sand that gets everywhere. preferred sites are usually by the dock or old river country and the posts. When we were there we had a preferred site which had a lot of crushed shells and sand and setup a tent for the kids while we stayed in the trailer. We put an AC unit in the tent for them and they were nice and cool. Next time we'll get a full pad and no tent setup and somewhere in the middle of the park so we wont be in the traffic areas.

We like the preferred sites. They are near the general store, the Settlement, and the boat. They are the medium sized sites, and are very nice. The Premium lots are bigger by a decent amount, and are bigger loops, so you may prefer them, especially if you want to be closer to the pool and the campfire singalong. The lowest cost sites are the least conveniently located, and the smallest. But they are still nice. They are all really good sites, but for the price difference, I'd go for either the preferred or Premium sites depending on the size you want/need, as well as location. You have the best choice of location with the premium lots. Plus, if you have a pet, you have more options with the premium lots as only one loop for the Preferred sites (loop 300) allows pets.

Western Way is the road that comes off of Rt429 (Western Beltway). So, from I-75, you'll need to take the turnpike South to Rt 429 South. Continue South on 429, past the New Independence Parkway toll. You'll see signs for Disney World/Hartzog Rd. Just take that exit, following the signs to Disney. THAT exit will put you on Western way, and you'll drive behind the Animal Kingdom past Coronado Springs. At the light next to Coronado Springs, turn left onto Buena Vista Parkway. Stay in the left lane, and then follow the sign to exit onto World drive towards Magic Kingdom. The rest you've done before. Enjoy.
