Just drove the BRP from Spruce Pine NC to Asheville NC. I was NOT towing my trailer but couldn't help thinking of all the previous posts asking questions about taking trailers/motorhomes/class C's on the BRP. My opinion is that I personally would not tow anything if it is over 10 ft. tall. Its not the tunnels that's the problem, plenty of clearance height in them. Its the low hanging tree branches that is the issue. I know some 5th wheels and motorhomes are over 12 ft. tall and they would absolutely hit them. My TT is 11 ft. tall and I still would not risk it.

As a side note, if you are in the area of Mt. Mitchell I highly recommend going to the restaurant in Mt. Mitchell State Park.

This was started to make people aware of LOW HANGING BRANCHES ON TREES, NOT THE TUNNELS. I COULD be wrong on this but they looked like they could be a hazard for rigs that might be over 12 ft. high. Just my observation and opinion.

here is a list of all the tunnels and their minimum and maximum heights. Note the minimum is at the shoulder of the road, as the tunnels are arched. Any vehicle of legal height (13'6") will be fine on the parkway. Drive you RVs and enjoy one of the best drives in the country.

Hi All
I left Florida this A.M. and am on way to the parkway in my truck camper.. I have my kayak on top which brings my height to 12ft 6 inches. I have the list of tunnels and heights. I realize I have to stay center because of the low height at sides. Any advice, should I skip the low ones down on the southern end.

Before reading this post I figured I would get local info when I got to the area but thought I would just ask those here who know the Pkwy.

After the blue ridge and skyline drive I will be heading to the Adirondacks main reason for kayak.

What can I say fellas, they looked mighty low to me. I still say caution is in order.

I could not disagree more. I have driven the parkway end to end many times and never had a problem with the tunnels or overhead trees. I think the OP is mistaken, which is entirely possible since he drove it without a RV!

That's interesting; that's the only section of the BRP I haven't been on yet. I've done the whole thing from Afton, VA to Spruce Pine, NC. My TC is 11' 5" to the top of the AC unit. I don't remember branches being a problem at all.
