We will be staying at James Island County Park Campground and will be going up to Myrtle Beach. Can you tell me should you take rt 17 thru Charleston or take I 526 around to rt 17. Will be towing a 5th wheel.

your best route would be 26 west to i-95 north, exit 170 to myrtle beach
this is all interstate to exit 170 on i-95

We did that exact drive in April 2016 and took 17 the whole way up. We are in a 42' fifth wheel and crew cab/long bed dually. No issues at all.

I would go across the Wappo Cut Bridge, then 17N. But I'm a local so know the roads real well though it isn't that bad.

If you want to avoid as many traffic lights as possible, go 17S to 526 across to Mt Pleasant and 17N. Probably saves about a dozen traffic lights at the cost of about 3 miles. Just don't take 526 until about 9am at the earliest, 10 or 11 would be better.

We always took 17 with a 33 ft TT.
