Hi, We have traveled this route many times and the last few we took US32/US50 to I68. (both not towing and towing). We are heading back in June and Don't want to take this way, want a bit quicker. We have been on the PA turnpike too on way to NY so have some experience there. The map sites are telling me to take US 43/US 40 from I70 to I68. Anybody travel this way? US 40 looks to be a small two lane road for about 40 min. I thought I would just take the turnpike to I70 south and pay the tolls. I would think this would be quicker than US43/ US40. Thoughts? Thanks!
BTW: we are leavingon a Fri afternoon and will be going through Columbus, Wheeling and Washington no matter what.
I use 68 all the time. It is the same distance and no tolls.

US40 is 2 lanes in some areas, and as much as 4-6 lanes in other areas. It is usually non highway speeds with lights near towns and cities where it widens out. I think following I70 onto I70/76 to breezwood and down I70 is one highway option, the other is to take I70 to I79 to I68. Google maps claims its only a 5 mile difference by going I79 to I68 over taking the PA turnpike.

I always go down I-79 if I want to avoid the turnpike. wouldn't take any back roads in western PA , myself. 79/68 is fairly desolate so gas up before that stretch. it may be longer than 40 but probably make better time. bumpy
