Devil's Tower RV Parking

We are thinking about swinging through Devil's Tower on an upcoming trip to Yellowstone. They are suppose to have several spots for RV parking. Just wondering if anybody has any experience there. We're towing a 30' TT.

Thanks!

Dave

P.S I am not looking for overnight parking, just short-term parking for a quick visit.

You should unhook your rig about a mile inside the gate, just past the prairie dog town and on your left. It's where you'd turn to go to the campground.

There's an "over-run" parking lot near the visitor's center that buses and motor homes can use, but if your motor home has a toad or you're pulling a TT or 5er, you should plan on using the RV lot that's intended for them, especially now, during peak tourist season. As I recall it's all pull-through parking and all asphalt, less than a 100 yards off the main road. Do yourself a favor and use it. We tow a 26' 5er, and I'd never consider pulling it past the RV parking lot. It's just too small and crowded at the visitor center, and there's nowhere to turn around once you go past the turnoff for the campground.

The KOA is nice just before entering the gate, or if you can live without hookups, the campground adjacent to the trailer parking lot is nice -- one of our favorite campgrounds. I've posted this picture before on this board, but I'll do it one more time to give you an idea of the view from the Belle Fourche River campground. This was taken just a couple steps past a walk-through gate at the north end of the campground.

That's what I did. Also there is a federal park called Belle Fourche to camp in very close and is $6 a night with a geezer card. That is where my profile photo was taken. I enjoyed the area very much and I'm looking for an opportunity to go back.

There's a KOA and a restaurant/trading post within 50 yds. of the entrance to Devil's Tower. Nothing fancy, but its a 50 mile round trip from Devil's Tower to the expressway. There's a gopher "village" just inside the entrance to the park, and take binoculars because there's usually somebody climbing the tower. Several places along that 25 mile road to stop and take pictures. When you actually get there, you're too close to get a picture of the whole thing. They show "Close Encounters" every night inside the Trading Post.
There's a walking trail around the base of the tower.

They have a large lot where you can park, disconnect, and leave it while you drive on up. Plenty of room.
