This will be a new experience for us in 10 days. It sounds like it may be hard to get an overall view of road closures and problems along this route. Actually, I think we will probably use parallel routes for most of it and camp near these drives, with day trips out from campsite::
1::Any suggestion on a good source that will give accurate, easy to understand information about the roads?
2:: We prefer USFS/ COE/ county parks, etc over privately owned campgrounds. Will we find a good mix of these on the parralel routes?

Skyline Drive was a huge disappointment to us this year. Many, if not most, overlooks are grown up and all you can see is trees. Most of the views are from sections of road where you canโ€™t stop so the driver doesnโ€™t get to see anything. Had we had to pay the admission, Iโ€™d have been very unhappy. We drove about halfway and bailed out on the park and didnโ€™t go back. The park is great if you are a hiker, but the drive is not even worth mentioning. The overlooks on I64 south of the park are much more impressive.

The BRP is closed at 114.7 with a lengthy detour, but if you plan to camp along the route you can easily work around it. The views along the BRP arenโ€™t what they used to be, but still much better than Skyline Drive.
