Few question about insurance

What is meant by "Legal Driver" with your insurance? Does every insurance provide it?

Does every insurance provide assistance on the spot when involved in an accident?

What coverage do you need to get the assistance in case of big accident and out of prison?

Thanks

We'll be checking out Lewis & Lewis this year for coverage. We had our pickup stolen in March in Patzcuaro and although our insurance company (HDI Seguros) seemed fairly promising at first, they eventually sent a "final offer" letter and a cheque and stopped communicating, as did the agent, Mexadventure, who had advocated for us initially. We felt the amount was about 5 grand short and the amount - to our calculations, didn't pay us for the towing equipment that was on the truck (5th wheel hitch, brake equipment, suspension air bags) which was worth about $3500. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone heading for Mexico. We had insured with them for about 7 years, but hadn't had occasion to test them - they failed ! RYV

Read my "FAQ Insurance for Mexico" sticky at the top of this forum. It will answer most of your questions. As far as I know, not much has changed since I last updated it.

We had over all good results (eventually) with Lewis and Lewis. We had a hard time with a Qualitas adjuster for a while but Jim Lewis came through with a little polite pressure and the claim was paid. There was no accident involved so there was no reason for the adjuster to come to the scene (miles from no where). We met with him a couple of days later.

If your Spanish isn't at least conversant you could have problems though most of the adjusters speak at least some English.

Legal driver means a person that has a valid current drivers licence isued by a Department of Motor Vehicles from a state where that perdon resides.

Some insurance companies do provide assistance others do not.

Some years back there was a company of lawyers that provided a service for motorist in Mexico and I do not know if they are still in buisness, the firm was AJA, Asociacion Juridica Automvilista.
