Do you want to end up at Laurel, Montana or Buffalo, Wyoming? I'd still recommend Hwy 16 to Buffalo if heading east on I-90.

16 is a pull, but not bad. We did it last year. 20 miles straight up of 5 percent grade. No dropoffs or anything that I can remember. Not real curvy or anything either.

Going up to Rte 120 (Coolmom's route) is hardly a pull at all. Very scenic but relatively flat. It will take you to I-90 around Laurel, MT. We've used this route several times & enjoy it. 16 will be a pull, even though it's the easiest way over the Bighorns. (Unless you love mountain driving, DO NOT take 14 or 14A over the Bighorns.)

US 14 ALT north to SR294, 294 to SR120. 120 changes to SR72 at the Montana state line. Stay on SR72 until it meets US310 at Bridger. 310 meets US212 at Rockvale, MT. Then it's not far on US212 until you hit I-90 at Laurel, MT. That's if you are going north or west.

If you are headed east or south...take US 14 east to Greybull. Go south on US20 to Worland and then pick up US 16 over to Buffalo, pick up I-90 at Buffalo. US 16 is the easiest pull across the Big Horns, but not the most scenic.
