Halibut fishing

Want to go halibut fishing this summer while in Alaska, but I guess the mods don't want me to try to find the best places to charter! If you have a charter to recommend, please PM me.

We went out twice last summer with Afishunt Charters in Ninilchik - caught several large halibut (not chickens) - they also have a nice (by Alaska standards) campground - Alaskan Angler RV Park.

You want fish like this:

Falcon Charters in Homer. LINK

Ask for Tony, owner and operator of Falcon Charters. He gives a very safe and bountiful fishing experience. I have no affiliation with this company. I just climb aboard and enjoy the fishing.

Last summer we used Ninilchik Charters. Very satisfied with their excursion. And yes, we caught halibut!! If you get the TourSaver Coupon Book, they had a 2 for 1 coupon. They are a Cabela's sponsored outfitter.

If/when I got back to Alaska, I'd use them again!

Sent you a PM. Don't expect trophy Halibut any more, not many left in the Homer area. I know where to go to get large ones but I do not fish for large ones and release any that we catch. Most charters can get you fish and I sent you some that are good charters. I spend about 4 days a week in Homer camped at boat launch road, contact me if you would like.

We are hoping to get up your way next year. We were in BC a few years ago. Hubby paid the $ 1K for his day out. Sadly the weather turned very bad very quickly and didn't get a hook in the water so to speak. He knew before his day out the risks of his $. Will he get a decent day out for the same money? Of course weather we can't control or if the fish want to be caught, LOL

I'm too old to be chasing butt anymore......Oh Wait, I'd like to go out 3 hrs or so to find a nice fish, Money is somewhat of an object, I wouldn't mind an overnight trip for a combo. I have been out with charters (in Texas ) that were just motor out and drop a line then motor back. I have a boat, I don't need the experience of a boat ride. I've been out 4 days in the gulf of Mexico and there was a lot of boating and a lot of fishing . That was great!

The question to be resolved first is how serious do you want to get about chasing 'butt?

- Looking just to catch some fish? or
- Looking for an opportunity for a barn door?
- Get on the water as cheap as possible?
- Money no object?

Presuming you're looking at something based in Southcentral (if you want a big-a** butt, go to the Aleutians or Pribilofs), you're options are "sort-of" to chase chicken halibut from six-packs near to shore or to travel 3-4 hours (primarily from Homer) to get further out in the water and have a better chance of big fish.

Set some of those parameters and then it's easier to get to a point of recommending at least a location, if not a specific charter.
