We are planning our trip to the Yukon this summer (July) and will be returning by Hwy 37 from Watson Lake to Hwy 16. Any issues finding a camping spot during the early part of July or would reservations be recommended.

We did the Inside Passage via Ferry from Skagway to Haines, to Juneau, to Sitka, to Ketchikan AK and finished up at Prince Rupert BC, during July 2013 in our 24' chargeable length B+. The total cost for the 5 legs of the trip with two overnight cabins was around $1700, our reservations were made in February 2013. We stopped for 2-3 nights at each port. Personally the Inside Passage via Ferry is much more impressive than Denali.

Thanks. Something I wasn't aware of. Will have to look into it more.

If you're travelling with just your van, it won't be too bad. If you're in an over-length RV, then the $$ add up quickly.

You also cannot stay in your vehicle while on the ferry so add the cost of a cabin if you're on an overnight expedition.

We did the overnight ferry between Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert with our truck and short fifth wheel in 2007. http://yukonsights.ca/20070901_BCFerryNorth.html

Anybody know about the status/condition of the Cassiar Hwy? I did it 2 years ago and there was a lot of construction along the southern part with the road torn up and a lot of delays. I believe a new transmission line was going in.

There were no problems last year. The transmission lines are complete.

Thanks. Think I'm going to go that way in June. If not then, then on the return from Haines in July and then go to Prince Rupert and pick up a ferry to Vancouver Island. Then drive down the island and ferry over to Vancouver or Port Angelis. Bit of the long way around to Denver but I H
haven't done this before.

You need to change your 'name' to Money Bags. Those two ferries? ohhh man....$$'s.

Came north to South last July and the road was in great shape, no problems.
Spent 1 night at Iskut, Mountain Shadow RV park, very nice.

I've stayed at a large campground in Dease Lake (Dease Lake RV Park). It was full service and convenient to restaurant, grocery, etc.

You will have choices in this regard...provincial at Boya Lake is very popular, so if that is your intention, then yes, a reservation. And probably at Meziadin Lake. You'll probably not need a reservation for the Stewart muni site. The private ones more than likely. Once you are past the Stewart Junction southbound there are oodles of places to be off the road for the night.

I would bet that Canada Day on July 1 will make reservations required in many campgrounds.
