getcarter...you will be fine. 100%. Lots of Rv traffic, truck traffic, buses, sports cars, motorcycles head over that road every summer day. May? perfect..you beat the tourists. You will be challanged with folks behind you...use the pull-outs. There are lots of boondocking opportunities along the way if that is something you enjoy.

I just drove it today (F150 pulling a 26ft TT). Surface condition of the road was in great shape the entire way (that I recall). Road is generally tight, twisty and can be narrow (lacking a proper shoulder for much of it). A good climb coming out of Pemberton with some switchbacks. It was relatively slow going for me, but the traffic was light on a Tuesday morning/afternoon in early August. No services for that stretch, but definitely places to pull over.

Overall had no issues and wouldn't think twice about taking a Motorhome w/toad or larger Fiver (though I've never driven either of those). It's just not going to be fast.
